American comedian and Hollywood star Nick Offerman left Sunday Brunch hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy red-faced during his appearance on the Channel 4 show this weekend.

Parks and Recreation star Nick, 55, was in the studio to promote his new books, Little Woodchucks, which aims to introduce carpentry and woodwork to a younger audience.

As part of his appearance, he joined fellow celebrities KT Tunstall, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Rachel Parris as they sampled a selection of red wines and a freshly-whipped up pumpkin pie.

In doing so, Nick was present for the show’s weekly fears and phobias segment.

Quizzed by Tim about his own biggest fear, Nick opened up about his terror of disappointing his parents – who he described as ‘the greatest citizens I’ve ever met.’

It was then that he shocked the 57-year-old presenter by dropping a four-letter swear world on live television.

‘Naturally, as their kid, I experimented with the other direction,’ said Nick of his rebellious streak as a child.

‘And eventually with maturation I learned to try and be a decent person. But I’m always catching up.

‘So when I wake up in a sweat at night, I just think “are my parents ashamed of me?”‘

Asked whether he’d ever spoken to his parents about this fear, Nick admitted how he’d reflected on his upbringing and apologised to his father for his teenage rebellion.

‘I called my dad and I said “dad, I’m sorry for the last four or five years. I’ve been quite a real t**t.”‘ Pausing, he asked Tim and Simon: ‘Can I say that?’

‘You can’t!’ a flustered Tim interjected, ‘I must apologise for that, but carry on.

‘He is American,’ he added, jokingly.

‘Oops Nick Offerman just said the T word on Sunday Brunch!’ said X user feakins25 as the moment aired.

Meanwhile, others were charmed by the laid-back actor’s appearance on the Channel 4 institution.

‘Nick Offerman on Sunday Brunch today has been a delight. I didn’t think I could love him more but there was a bit left in the tank. What a lovely man and a great guest,’ said Jooberloober.

‘Nick Offerman is a dude,’ commented edbond07.

‘What an unexpected treat,’ agreed mcarle27.

Elsewhere in the episode, Nick discussed such topics as his Emmy-award winning turn in The Last of Us, and playing Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation.

Talk also turned to his marriage to Will and Grace actress Megan Mullally – who he first met in 2000, and married three years later.

As he chatted with Simon and Tim, Nick revealed that their secret to a happy marriage was booking several months off a year from acting work, so as to spend time together.

Megan, meanwhile, previously shared her secret to retaining her slim figure – sleeping with her husband.

‘I don’t do anything,’ Megan, 66, told Lorraine Kelly on her ITV show in 2018.

‘I don’t drink, I don’t eat sugar or grains. I have sex with my husband, that’s all I do. So there is one thing. But it’s not fattening!’

Sunday Brunch airs Sundays at 10am on Channel 4.
