The Hand That Rocks The Cradle is getting a reboot, and horror fans are ‘hyped.’

The original revenge thriller, released in 1992, follows Peyton (Rebecca De Mornay), who suffers a miscarriage due to the stress of her husband’s death after he is accused of sexual misconduct by some of his patients.

However, in her grief, she blames one of his accusers, Claire (Annabella Sciorra), and sets out on a path of revenge.

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle was a massive box office success, grossing a whopping $140million (£104.5m) against a budget of $11.9m (£8.8m), making it one of the year’s most profitable films.

And this week, the trailer dropped for a remake of the film coming to Hulu in the US on October 22. A UK release date is yet to be announced.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World’s Mary Elizabeth Winstead will star as Caitlin Morales, a mother whose life is turned upside down by her new nanny, Polly Murphy, portrayed by Longlegs star Maika Monroe.

It will be directed by Michelle Garza Cervera, best known for her acclaimed feature debut Huesera: The Bone Woman.

A trailer has been released ahead of its streaming release, teasing the seriously intense and sinister vibes genre fans have come to know and love from the original film.

Taking to social media, fans have expressed their excitement over the classic film finding a new audience through the remake, gushing over the talent involved.

Gman82able said: ‘Personally, I’m a big believer in if it’s not broke, don’t fix it, but this genuinely looks to be making it’s own with a very strong cast.’

Others say they had ‘prayed’ for this remake, while some said they were excited ‘two scream queens were finally meeting’ in one film.

Levesquet added: ‘2 of my favorite Scream Queens are in this, so I’ll be watching.’

It comes after a remake of another beloved horror film was announced this week, to mixed reactions from fans.

Kenan Thompson and producer Johnny Ryan Jr have reportedly acquired the rights to the 1983 slasher Sleepaway Camp, according to Deadline.

Original director and writer, Robert Hiltzik, is also attached to the project.

Starring Mike Kellin, Katherine Kamhi, Paul DeAngelo, Jonathan Tiersten, Felissa Rose, Christopher Collet, and Karen Fields, Sleepaway Camp follows a group of teens at a summer camp who are preyed upon by a mysterious killer.

Speaking in a statement to Deadline, Ryan Jr said they are ‘staying true to the OG story,’ but there will be ‘some insane new twists.’

Fans, however, aren’t convinced the classic slasher will translate for modern audiences, particularly due to its divisive representation of transgender character Angela Baker (Rose), and the fact that she was not played by a trans actor.

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle will be released on Hulu on October 22. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
