She added, “SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS SONG WITH YOU ALL.”

A Dream Years in the Making

Keaton’s dream of singing professionally had been with her for decades. She first opened up about it in a 2014 interview with Richard Crouse, recalling her early attempts to perform on stage.

“I had a fantasy of being a nightclub singer that I carried through even into my early 20s,” she said. “I sang a couple of gigs, as they call them, but I was not very good.”

While she admitted she had a “very small voice” and some “limitations,” Keaton said her passion for music always remained strong. “I have this love of it,” she shared. “I love music. I love singing ballads and sad songs, it’s just so much fun.”

Keaton’s single “First Christmas” marked the realization of a lifelong passion. It came two years after she collaborated with singer Ashe on the 2022 track “Love Is Letting Go.”

The project gave Keaton a chance to explore a new creative side late in life, something she often encouraged others to do. Fans praised her for embracing a new dream with the same charm and courage that made her an icon.

Her voice, gentle and sincere, carried the warmth and nostalgia she had long described in interviews. “I have this love of it,” she once said. “I love music.”

Keaton passed away in California on October 11, a family spokesperson confirmed to People.

She left behind not just an unforgettable career but a legacy of laughter, honesty, and heart. Her body of work included classics like “Annie Hall,” “The First Wives Club,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” and “The Godfather.”

After her passing, tributes poured in from colleagues and fans alike. “Diane, working with you will always be one of the highlights of my life,” wrote Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who played her daughter in “Father of the Bride.”

“You are one of a kind, and it was thrilling to be in your orbit for a time. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your talent, and above all, your laughter.”
