It took Savannah Guthrie a long time to move past the pain of her first marriage. The “Today” show co-anchor opened up about the relationship that she rarely speaks of on the âReclaiming with Monica Lewinskyâ podcast on Tuesday.
âIt was horrible and sad, and it broke my heart,â Guthrie admitted in the interview.
Savannah Was Married to a BBC Journalist for Four Years

Guthrie met former BBC journalist Mark Orchard while covering the Michael Jackson trial, and the two instantly hit it off. They were married from 2005 to 2009. She admitted on Monica Lewinskyâs podcast that it took her âyears to recoverâ from her divorce, clarifying, âIâm not blaming anyone but I donât really want to get into it.â Savannah was honest about her split from Orchard while discussing why she kept the âgory detailsâ of their breakup out of her book âMostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere.â
âItâs the one thing I didnât want to talk about,â she explained while saying that she wanted readers to know she had âexperienced adversityâ but didnât want to share “the depths of that.â The book itself is primarily about facing the pain in life dead on and then learning to move past it with the hope of finding faith in God and his actions along the way
Savannah Insisted on Having Boundaries While Writing Her Book
Savannah admits that the end of her first marriage wasn’t her finest moment and that opening up about it felt âtoo personalâ and âtoo embarrassing.â It was because of this that the journalist decided to set strict boundaries for what she was willing to discuss in her book. It’s a rare occasion when a publisher doesn’t have an issue with the writer’s need for privacy, but she stood her ground and got her way.
âIt was such a revelation and, I think, also so important as a woman, you know, that thereâs this sense of ⦠this idea of public-private, that youâre allowed to have a boundary,” said Lewinsky, of Guthrie’s ability to set personal limits and have them honored.
Savannah Guthrie Found Her Happy Ending With Mike Feldman

Savannah told Monica Lewinsky that it took years for her to get past the pain of her divorce, but eventually, she found love again. She went on to marry former political advisor Michael Feldman in 2014, and they share two kids: daughter Vale, 10, and son Charley, 8. The couple recently celebrated their tenth anniversary.
