Another tribute reads: “A remarkable life concluded for the talented actress Sally Kirkland.”

Inside Her Brave Spirit To Battle Health Issues

A GoFundMe page was launched in November 2024 by her close friends to support Kirkland’s ongoing health challenges. They revealed that the actress had “fractured her four bones in her neck, right wrist, and her left hip,” and that “while recovering, she developed two separate life-threatening infections.”

Her friends explained that Kirkland had been struggling financially for years, noting that she lost most of her savings after receiving “bad advice from a financial advisor-business manager in 2007 during the market crash,” which wiped out “the bulk of her investments and the money she made during the peak of her career.”

On Friday, November 7, her friends shared an emotional update on the page, writing, “Thank you for all your love and support. Sally is grateful for your kindness and love. Sally is on hospice now and is resting comfortably. Please hold and send the light for Sally.”

That message came a little over a month after they posted another update describing her health struggles. “Hi, Sally sends her love to everyone. It has been a challenging few months for Sally as her health continues to struggle,” they wrote on October 2.

“She had a fall in the shower, when she was left unattended, injuring her ribs and foot, along with cuts and bruises. Sally is now receiving 24/7 care in a specialized facility that is providing wonderful safety and care. We are continuing to raise money to cover the gaps between income and care costs. Thank you for all the love, support, and care for Sally.”

Born in New York City to Vogue fashion editor Sally Kirkland Sr. and metals dealer Fredric M. Kirkland, she studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before launching her career on stage and screen.

In 1964, she gained attention as one of Andy Warhol’s “13 Most Beautiful Women” and made headlines in 1968 as the first actress to appear fully nude in an off-Broadway production titled “Sweet Eros.”

Her big break came nearly two decades later with the 1987 film “Anna,” which earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress, an Independent Spirit Award, and an Oscar nomination.

A Prolific Career Spanning 200 Films

Over six decades, Kirkland built a remarkable career with more than 200 acting credits. Her most recognizable roles include appearances in “Bruce Almighty,” “JFK,” and “The Sting” alongside Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

She also starred in classic TV shows such as “Starsky and Hutch,” “Charlie’s Angels,” and “Kojak,” and made a guest appearance on “General Hospital” in 1982.

Kirkland’s blend of talent and fearlessness made her one of Hollywood’s most spectacular performers, admired for her range and passion for her craft.

Outside of acting, Kirkland led a rich, purposeful life. She was an ordained minister and a devoted yoga practitioner, often teaching and mentoring aspiring actors throughout her later years.

Her representative said she will be remembered not only for her groundbreaking performances but also for her kindness and spiritual depth.
