The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp isn’t known for its cleanliness, but a former star has opened up about the ‘smelliest year ever’.

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway was in the jungle back in 2019 with the likes of Caitlyn Jenner, Ian Wright, Roman Kemp and winner Jacqueline Jossa.

That year, wildfires meant the campmates couldn’t start their own blaze, which would ‘normally’ mask the smells after weeks living out in the elements.

‘We were the smelliest year ever, Ant and Dec said,’ Kate admitted on Monday’s episode of GMB days before this year’s launch with an all-star cast.

She explained: ‘If you remember, there were massive wildfires, so we weren’t allowed a fire.

‘Normally everyone smells but normally the campfire covers it. Whereas we had a gas burner to be safe, and we stank of fish oils and guts and everything.’

Although she noted they did still get to use ‘roll-on’ deodorant (small mercies), the issue wasn’t ‘so much the sweat’, it was the things that got stuck to the campmate’s bodies during the trials.

Adil Ray shuffled down the sofa after Kate’s confession, and she quickly apologised for oversharing and insisted it was nothing to do with her fellow stars.

‘I’m so sorry I shared that, I’m worried for all my campmates now,’ she said. ‘It wasn’t anything about us, it was the circumstances. Don’t sue me Caitlyn Jenner!’

Later in the show, her former campmate Adele Roberts joined, describing the show – and one task which saw her buried underground and covered in rats, cockroaches and more – as ‘like a Tarantino movie’.

‘Kate was amazing though! She was ripping down trees,’ she said, while Kate advised this year’s gang: ‘It is a mental challenge as well as a physical challenge.’

This weekend, the likes of Coleen Rooney, Tulisa, Danny Jones and GK Barry are heading into the jungle to take on the Bushtucker Trials.

They’ll be hoping to avoid the ‘smelliest year’ tag, while ITV bosses reportedly have taken steps to avoid a more figurative stink.

It’s been claimed producers have purposely avoided politicians on the upcoming series, with the aim of pushing for a more ‘positive’ series.

A source told MailOnline: ‘ITV producers are pushing for a more ‘positive’ I’m A Celebrity after reviewing previous series which saw the likes of controversial politicians Matt Hancock and Nigel Farage divide its viewership.

‘Changing the show’s fundamental format, producers have added two camp leaders to allow contestants to create bonds.’

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! launches on Sunday at 9pm on ITV1.
