“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has the distinction of being the longest-running American live-action sitcom. The show began in 2005, and many agree it’s as funny as ever. However, Glenn Howerton, who plays Dennis in “It’s Always Sunny,” recently opened up about wanting to quit the hit FXX series.Â
According to Entertainment Weekly, Glenn Howerton was recently on a panel to celebrate the long-running series for its 20th anniversary. While reflecting on the show, Glenn said, “I was worried that maybe we had sort of peaked or something.”
He continued discussing “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” saying, “And I just was like, you know, we’ve been doing this for a long time, and I think I was also anxious. I had not figured out yet how to stretch myself and be able to do other things that I wanted to do with my career outside of the show.”
The actor continued, “I was aching to do other things, and so I was starting to feel a little boxed in, frankly.” Still, Glenn says he “never lost any appreciation for the show.” He went on, “I just thought like maybe we should, and then they were like, ‘We don’t want to end it,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, well I can’t stop you.’”
Glenn Howerton Is Returning For Season 17 of ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is still one of the most talked-about shows on the air. Luckily for fans, Dennis and the rest of the characters from “It’s Always Sunny” will return for a 17th season.
The show is scheduled to premiere on July 9th. According to IMDb, like most of the recent installments, the season will consist of eight episodes. Notably, the first episode will be the second part of the much-talked-about “Abbot Elementary” crossover.Â
Fans will also be happy to know that the show has been renewed for an 18th season.
The Cast Is Also Busy Outside of the Show
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is a staple of comedy television. However, the cast has also done an excellent job of branching out. Regarding Glenn Howerton, he received rave reviews for his role in the 2023 movie “Blackberry” as well as his starring tenure in A.P. Bio, which ran from 2018 to 2021.Â
Additionally, Kaitlin Olson has been in multiple television series. She has a recurring role in “Hacks” and also stars in the hit ABC show “High Potential.” Regarding Charlie Day, he played Luigi in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” in 2023. Rob McElhenney starred in Apple’s “Mythic Quest” from 2020 until 2025.Â
Of course, Danny DeVito was an icon long before “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
