ITV has spoken out over the claim that Love Island stars Tom Clare and Casey O’Gorman were able to access social media in an accidental rule break.

On the ITV2 series, the islanders each have phones that they’re able to use to message each other and take photos, with the devices also alerting them when there’s big news concerning the competition.

They aren’t able to use the internet or social media platforms, with their profiles remaining dormant throughout the 2023 season until they exit the villa.

However, it was claimed that for a brief amount of time, Tom and Casey managed to find a loophole.

The revelation was reportedly made by dumped contestant Maxwell Samuda while he was on an Instagram Live with fellow stars Martin Akinola and Keanan Brand.

Maxwell, who’s still dating Olivia Hawkins after they were voted out by the public, alleged that the pair ‘accidentally hacked into their phones’, the Daily Star reported.

The close friends are said to have ‘easily guessed’ a password, and subsequently downloaded Instagram and other social media.

However, it appears their morals got the better of them, as they’re said to have handed in their phones to the producers after ‘freaking out’ over the rule breach.

A Love Island fan also shared a recap of the Instagram Live on Reddit, recounting Tom and Casey’s reported accidental phone hack.

However, a Love Island spokesperson said regarding the claim: ‘No islanders have downloaded or had access to social media while in the villa.’

Maxwell, Martin and Keanan were said to have also been joined during the livestream by Casa Amor boy Frankie Davey, with Keanan apparently expressing his hope for Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan to win the show.

While Frankie also voiced his support of Kai and Sanam, he predicted that Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins could be crowned the winners.

Casey was recently dumped from Love Island with his partner Rosie Seabrook, leaving Tom in tears over his departure.

After his exit, Casey said that his ‘number one priority’ was introducing Rosie to his friends and family, as he ‘needed’ the approval from his mum.

‘I’m just super excited to see where things go on the outside,’ he added, having previously been romantically involved with Claudia Fogarty on the series before moving on with Rosie.

Casey added that he ‘would love to chat with Claudia’, stating: ‘I hate the thought of there being bad blood, it’s not what I’m about.’ has contacted ITV for comment.

Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
