Jason Momoa Broke Down in Tears Watching Son Nakoa-Wolf Act in ‘Dune: Part Three’

Jason Momoa may be returning to the desert planet of Arrakis, but this time he’s not the only Momoa on set. The “Game of Thrones” star revealed he wasn’t just excited to see the new anticipated “Dune” film but was actually also overwhelmed with pride. This, of course, was after watching his 16-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf, shoot his first scenes in “Dune: Part Three.”

During a recent appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, Momoa admitted he was a “wreck” while sitting on set in Budapest, Hungary, watching Wolf. Wolf has decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and has a special part in the film, playing Leto II Atreides, the son of Paul, played by Timothée Chalamet, and Chani, played by Zendaya.

“His first goddamn scene, I’m sitting there shi**ng my pants,” Momoa confessed. “My baby, 16 years old. He just killed it. I was crying, I was a f*ing wreck. I was so proud of him.”

From ‘No Way You’re Acting’ to Leto II Atreides

Momoa has long been protective of his son’s dreams of acting, often insisting that Hollywood was “too hard” and telling him to stick to school plays. “He always wants to act. I’m like, you’re not acting. There’s no way—I’m not letting you act,” Momoa told the trio.

But things changed after producer Cale Boyter saw Wolf’s martial arts reel and encouraged him to audition. The teenager ended up doing a three-and-a-half-hour screen test with director Denis Villeneuve. According to Momoa, his son “killed it” without any help from Dad.

“(Director Denis Villeneuve) loves Wolf and he’s just doing a great job,” Momoa said. “It’s the craziest feeling. I didn’t want him to do it, but I’m not going to lie to you, he’s so good.”

Nakoa-Wolf, whose mom is actress Lisa Bonet, has been training in martial arts since childhood. That discipline, combined with growing up around movie sets, seems to have set him up for success.

“I’m doing f***ing Dune with my son right now,” Momoa said with awe. “And I didn’t help him at all. He did this on his own.”

Jason Momoa: A Proud Dad in the Desert

The “Dune” franchise, adapted from Frank Herbert’s science-fiction epic, has become a cultural phenomenon, to say the least. The films have now become a monumental part of cinematic history, with the third part already receiving buzz from critics despite it not being released. Momoa originally played Duncan Idaho, the swashbuckling swordmaster of House Atreides, in 2021’s “Dune.” Though Idaho didn’t survive the first film, Villeneuve is bringing Momoa back in Part Three, set for release in December 2026. Which we aren’t so mad about.

For Momoa, though, the real story this time is not his return but his son’s.

“He’s with Zendaya, and I’m like, ‘He’s in it,’” Momoa recalled. “My baby, 16 years old. And he just killed it. You want your kids to just be better than you. I’m like, ‘This mother***er’s gonna blow me away.’”

With “Dune: Part Three” already deep into production, and actors popping in and out of filming and giving sneak peeks, fans are buzzing about what the Atreides twins will bring to the saga. But no one seems more excited than Momoa, who might have just witnessed the beginning of a second generation of Momoa action stars.

Hawaiians for the win!
