Jason Ritter’s Adorable TV Debut on His Dad’s Iconic Sitcom: VIDEO

Jason Ritter’s first TV appearance was as a toddler in the opening credits of “Three’s Company,” the beloved sitcom which starred his late father, John Ritter.

Joyce DeWitt, who played Janet on the show, recently shared that it was a last-minute choice by the director to have Ritter appear in the opening.

“In my credit, where I’m down and this little boy toddles in, that’s Jason Ritter, John’s first child,” DeWitt explained during a panel at the SouthFork Experience. “The Jason Ritter that you see on TV all the time, that was his film premiere. His little overall butt walking up to me.”

Ritter looks adorable as a baby wearing dark overalls and no shirt in a quick little scene at filmed at the Los Angeles Zoo.

“There was a rough draft, but not really a game plan,” DeWitt continued. “And because we were going to be all day on location, people brought their children, their wives, whatever, it was kind of a group event.” The zoo sequence served as the opening theme for seasons 6 through 8 of the sitcom.

Ritter, 45, is now a TV star in his own right, having appeared in many projects over the years including “Girls,” “A Million Little Things,” and the reboot of “Matlock.” Many fans have pointed out that Ritter is the spitting image of his dad, John, who tragically passed away in 2003.

And Ritter can’t help but agree. “Absolutely, every once and a while, in the mirror or if I see myself on this today later, I’ll be like, ‘Oh wow,’” he shared during an appearance on “The Talk.” “I’ll have a little moment of seeing him and it’s always nice.”

A clip of Ritter doing an impression of his dad on TikTok went viral last year. It was a request from a fan that Ritter recreate his dad’s “creep face” he often used on “Three’s Company” and Ritter nailed it.

“I didn’t look at your name, but as soon as you did that I knew you were John Ritter’s son,” one fan commented.

Another wrote, “Aw … you look just like your dad. He was awesome!!”

Jason Ritter Got His Sense of Humor From His Dad

Ritter is married to actor Melanie Lynskey and they share a 6-year-old daughter together. According to Lynskey, Ritter is just as funny at home as his fans suspect.

In a sweet Valentine’s Day Instagram post last year, the “Yellowjackets” actor listed all the reasons she loves her husband and among them was “making fun of me in a way that makes me feel seen and celebrated and also makes me cry laughing.”

In 2018 Ritter told Larry King that he grew up in “a funny household” sharing that his dad “made jokes throughout every dinner and every hangout time afterwards.”
