Jeremy Clarkson has issued a furious statement to people claiming the celebrity victims of the LA wildfires ‘don’t matter’.

The likes of Paris Hilton, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Spencer Pratt, Leighton Meester and Milo Ventimiglia are among Hollywood stars who have lost their homes in the devastating fires.

153,000 people have been told to evacuate their homes, with an estimated 10,000 buildings destroyed and at least 11 people have been killed.

Several celebrities have shared the horrors on Instagram, while evacuating to nearby hotels, while others including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been seen helping those in need and victims of the blazes.

Firefighters are battling from both helicopters and the ground as the wildfires continue into their fourth night in a row.

While several stars, including Mandy Moore and Heidi Montag, have shared their devastation in emotional online posts, they’ve been hit by trolling, and now former Top Gear host Clarkson has stepped in.

Writing in his column in The Sun, he said: ‘I’m not making light of this truly apocalyptic event.

‘I know there are social media socialists saying, “They’re rich so it doesn’t matter” But that’s nonsense.

‘It doesn’t matter how much money you have, it always hurts to lose your photograph albums and your pets and your lifetime collection of fridge magnets.

‘My heart, and I really mean this, goes out to everyone affected.’

He went on to say that people in California are ‘obsessed with letting nature take its course and not interfering’ and are ‘also obsessed, over there, with showing off’.

Clarkson called for the houses to be rebuilt on ‘expensive building materials that don’t catch fire quite so easily’, saying the ‘smaller and less impressive’ homes may then ‘survive the next fire’.

This comes after This Is Us actress Mandy also hit back at critics who questioned if she was financially helping her in-laws, after she promoted their Los Angeles fire relief fundraiser on social media.

‘People questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are,’ she said.

‘We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.’
