Jude Law, known for his swoon-worthy role in the Christmas classic The Holiday, recently shared some surprising behind-the-scenes secrets about the 2006 film.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2 with host Zoe Ball and comedian Kerry Godliman, the 51-year-old actor broke all our hearts by revealing the perfect cottage in Surrey that features prominently in the film never existed at all.
Law portrayed Graham, a widower who finds love with Amanda (played by Cameron Diaz) after she swaps homes with Surrey-based journalist Iris (Kate Winslet).
One of the most iconic aspects of the movie is Rosehill Cottage, the dreamy countryside retreat where Amanda stays and takes many contemplative baths (dreamy).
Fans of the film have long wondered if the quaint English cottage, with its snow-dusted exterior and cozy interiors, was a real place.
Kerry Godliman asked Jude on the podcast: ‘Can you Airbnb that cottage?’ Zoe chimed in, ‘I think so,’ but Jude revealed the truth much to their dismay.

‘That cottage doesn’t exist,’ he confessed. ‘The director, she’s a bit of a perfectionist, toured that whole area and didn’t quite find the chocolate box cottage she was looking for. So she just hired a field and drew it and had someone build it.’
The revelation didn’t end there. Jude shared a detail that might change how fans view the movie. ‘We were shooting in the winter here, and every time I go in that door, we cut and shot the interiors in LA about three months later.’
The confession left Zoe and Kerry in shock. ‘We don’t want to hear anymore. We can’t bear it,’ Zoe exclaimed, while Kerry added, ‘That’s very upsetting.’

Jude, with an apologetic grin, responded: ‘Just burst the bubble, sorry.’
Although Rosehill Cottage was constructed specifically for the film and its interior was just a set, its inspiration came from a real place.
The production team modeled it after Honeysuckle Cottage in Holmbury St Mary, a Surrey village. The property, which was put up for sale in 2021 and now operates as an Airbnb, helped spark the cozy aesthetic fans fell in love with.
The movie also features scenes filmed in other picturesque Surrey locations, including the villages of Shere and Godalming.

Despite the bubble-bursting revelations, fans of The Holiday may still have something to look forward to.
Back in June, Jude hinted at his openness to a sequel during an interview at New York City’s Tribeca Festival.
‘I love the idea,’ he told E! News.
While no official plans for a follow-up have been announced, Jude noted that the decision ultimately lies with the film’s director and writer, Nancy Meyers.
‘Why not?’ he added, fueling hope among fans who still hold the film close to their hearts.
