It has been several years since the political drama “Scandal” ended its run on ABC. Of course, the show is still finding new fans as it’s available on multiple streaming platforms. Recently, the show’s star, Kerry Washington, reunited with former co-star Guillermo DÃaz and posted photos to mark the occasion.
Washington took to Instagram on September 24 to announce that DÃaz would be guest-starring on her “Prophecy” podcast. She said in the reel, “You guys, season two of The Prophecy. It’s an amazing season, and we have a special surprise for you.”
From there, the camera panned to DÃaz, who said, “What’s up, y’all? Guess who’s back together.” They then said that season two of the hit podcast premieres September 25 on Audible. As fans of “Scandal” know, Washington played the lead character, Olivia Pope, who is a DC fixer.
DÃaz played the role of Huck, who had a scattered past but went on to work for her firm. “Scandal” premiered on ABC in 2012 and concluded in 2018. Shonda Rhimes created the hit series.
More About Washington’s Podcast
Washington has been a busy woman in the years following “Scandal” ending. One of her endeavors is the Audible-exclusive scripted podcast “The Prophecy.” The show premiered in July 2022 and is now set to return for a second season.
She spoke to Interview Magazine about the podcast. When asked what led her to participate in it, she said, “Well, I love working in new mediums. I always think itâs very challenging. It helps me grow as an actor to have certain tools taken out of my toolbox and other tools put in.”
Washington continued, “But I alsoâI just love the premise. When Randy McKinnon first pitched this idea to our company, I was captivated. I immediately thought this is such a provocative, innovative world that he wants to build with this story, and I want to be a part of it!”
Washington provides the voice for Dr. Virginia Marilyn Edwards in the supernatural thriller podcast. Notably, actor Laurence Fishburne is also in the podcast.
She Isn’t Stepping Away from the Big Screen
Washington may be busy with “The Prophecy,” but that doesn’t mean she’s stepping away from on-screen acting. One of her upcoming roles is in “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.” She recently spoke to PEOPLE about how the film differs from other “Knives Out” movies.
She told the outlet, “[Wake Up Dead Man] grapples with these real issues of faith and the idea of having the courage to examine what faith really means for you and how you practice your faith.”
Washington continued, “And just, totally, the world of it is so gothic. Rian brings in Edgar Allan Poe as an inspiration.” She went on to discuss how the movie was still a mystery to the cast before the first screening.
The actress said, “It’s so hard for us to talk about this film because we haven’t seen it. And yes, it’s true, we’ve read it, but I mean, we were at dinner the other night, and Rian was like ‘Oh, that scene where you do that thing.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, good to know that’s still in the movie.’ We have no idea what the final edit looks like.”
“Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” debuts in movie theaters on November 26, before heading to Netflix on December 12.
