Kristen Stewart has opened up about her upcoming movie directorial debut, suggesting it will be ‘hard to watch’.

The 34-year-old has made a splash on the big screen thanks to roles in Love Lies Bleeding, Spencer and the Twilight franchise.

She will be getting behind the camera for her next project, adapting The Chronology of Water – Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir.

Discussing what to expect in a new interview, she teased that it will be ‘about incest and periods’.

‘It’s a self-conscious thing to talk about, because it’s hard to get anything made. You know, [a film] that’s not regurgitating something that’s pretty standardized,’ she told Porter.

‘My movie is about incest and periods and a woman violently repossessing her voice and body, and it is, at times, hard to watch… but it’s gonna be a f**king thrill ride.

‘And I think that’s commercial, but I don’t think that I have any gauge on what that means.

‘I think people would want to see that, but then… I think maybe people wanna watch movies about Jesus and dogs.’

The memoir, released in 2011, explored Lidia’s life and her experience of childhood sexual abuse as well as addiction – and how she turned to swimming and writing for comfort.

Kristen first announced her decision to adapt The Chronology of Water at Cannes Film Festival in 2018, but has since endured issues financing the project.

At the beginning of the year, she famously vowed to quit acting until she was able to get her vision over the line.

‘It’s a self-conscious thing to talk about because it’s hard to get anything made,’ the Oscar-nominee said of helming the film. ‘I think it’s nice that, as I’ve gotten older, I would much prefer to tailor my experiences to result-oriented goals, versus, just, “This is gonna feel good for me right now.”’

Little else is known about Kristen’s adaptation, or when we could expect it to be released.

The official synopsis reads: ‘This is not your mother’s memoir. Lifelong swimmer and Olympic hopeful Lidia Yuknavitch accepts a college swimming scholarship in Texas in order to escape an abusive father and an alcoholic, suicidal mother.

She most recently appeared in Love Liies Bleeding (Picture: Getty)

‘After losing her scholarship to drugs and alcohol, Lidia moves to Eugene and enrolls in the University of Oregon, where she is accepted by Ken Kesey to become one of thirteen graduate students who collaboratively write the novel Caverns with him.

‘Drugs and alcohol continue to flow along with bisexual promiscuity and the discovery of S&M helps ease Lidia’s demons.

‘Ultimately Lidia’s career as a writer and teacher combined with the love of her husband and son replace the earlier chaos that was her life.’
