Kristin Davis Reveals How Long She Initially Agreed to Do ‘and Just Like That…’ for

In the weeks since And Just Like That… ended with a whisper instead of a bang, fans have questioned whether the showrunner pulled the plug or if HBO Max gave up on the Sex and the City reboot. While showrunner Michael Patrick King penned a tribute that claimed he had decided to put a stop to the show, fans remain unconvinced. Many assume the note was an attempt to save a bit of his dignity by denying a cancellation. Kristin Davis, however, suggests King could have been telling the truth, sort of. She recently admitted that while she was blindsided by the end of the series, she had signed on for a three-year commitment initially.

Kristin Davis is clearly heartbroken by the end of And Just Like That… The actor who reprised her role as Charlotte York has spoken of her absolute shock and surprise multiple times since the series ended. It is still making her emotional now. During a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Davis got emotional when discussing how and when she found out the series was ending. She admits it was very sudden for her, as tears formed in her eyes.

Davis’ admission has led many fans to believe that Michael Patrick King’s story, in which he claims to have decided the end had come while writing the show, is revisionist history. If it is not, he was an awful leader who failed to give actors adequate information. Davis hasn’t elluded to the latter, so we can assume the former is probably true.

While Kristin Davis was shocked by the sudden end to And Just Like That…, she acknowledged that she probably shouldn’t have been. During her chat with Barrymore, the seasoned actor revealed that she had initially committed to spending three years of her life working on the series.

She said that was what the cast agreed to initially, before they ever set foot on set, though it wasn’t an official “contract.” She said it was simply a commitment they had made to each other. Those three years came and went in a flash, though. Based on the tributes each main character wrote, none of them were really ready to let go.

Is this really the end, though?

Michael Patrick King insisted he believed season 3 was the perfect place to end Carrie Bradshaw’s journey. That doesn’t mean it’s forever, though. While King claims he’s done writing for Carrie, he has said that before. Other members of the cast and crew are optimistic that something special could come along again.

Elisa Zuritsky, an executive producer who worked on both Sex and the City and And Just Like That…, told TVLine that she still holds out hope for more. Zuritsky insists that she is remaining optimistic and taking notes just in case Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda return to the screen. She’s been saving storylines for them just in case. From the sounds of it, fans could count Davis in if that were ever to happen.
