LBC presenter Sangita Myska has inexplicably disappeared from her weekend slot on the station.

The former BBC presenter usually hosts an early afternoon weekend phone-in show on LBC Radio, but she was absent this past weekend, and does not appear on the upcoming schedule, leaving fans worried.

Channel 4 News’ International Editor Lindsey Hilsum took to X, expressing concern at where the award-winning journalist has gone.

‘Worried about the unexplained disappeared from @LBC of @SangitaMyska. She’s a brave, principled journalist and an excellent broadcaster. Listeners will be missing her. What’s the explanation?’ she wrote.

Having begun her decades-long career at the BBC on their trainee reporter scheme, Sangita soon carved out an impressive CV as a news presenter and journalist.

Key moments in Sangita’s career so far include her 2008 undercover investigation into child trafficking in Bulgaria, which was credited with helping influence the creation of UN Gift (United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking).

She won current affairs presenter of the Year at the 2023 ACTA Awards, and for her reporting on the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Podcast in 2019 she won the best current affairs category at the British Podcast Awards.

Sangita is also a regular panelist on other high-profile shows including Jeremy Vine on Channel 5 and Lorraine on ITV.

But now, she is absent from LBC’s schedule, with no explanation from the radio station or Sangita herself.

Ali Miraj is set to present Sangita’s usual 1pm to 4pm slot on the station, which is usually an unscripted show of phone-ins, often talking about wide-ranging topics in politics and social issues.

Many people have commented on journalist Lindsey’s X post with theories as to why she is absent.

This fan has taken it upon himself to create a petition

GMB news reader Marverine Cole said: ‘Was thinking the same thing. Sangita’s loyal audience will be wondering where she is.’

Military figure Charlie Herbert weighed in: ‘Well questioned Lindsey. Growing sense that she’s been silenced for her objective analysis of Israel’s conduct in this war. It’s madness.

‘She’s a great presenter, very fair, with real integrity. But this seems to be the new norm for all who dare question this war.’

Journalist Poonam Joshi replied to Lindsey’s post: ‘Couldn’t agree more. Sangita is an excellent incisive journalist. And God knows we need more of those in today’s world.’

Meanwhile, Sangita has remained silent in her absence, apart from a photo posted to her Instagram three days ago showing some flowers, with a caption, ‘Gardening…’ leaving some wondering whether this could be a cryptic clue that she’s on gardening leave from the channel.

One listener, David Noble, has set up a petition – which at the time of writing has over 4,000 signatures – demanding Sangita be reinstated in her usual weekday role on the station.

The description reads: ‘As an avid listener and supporter of LBC, I am deeply saddened by the sudden and unexplained removal of Sangita Myska from the air.

‘Sangita is a professional and thorough journalist whose insightful reporting has been a cornerstone of LBC’s programming. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be easily filled, depriving listeners of her unique perspective on critical issues.

‘Sangita’s dedication to journalism is evident in her work. She consistently provides balanced coverage, ensuring that all sides are represented fairly. This commitment to journalistic integrity has earned her respect from listeners and colleagues alike.

‘In 2019, she was recognized for her exceptional contributions to journalism with an award from the Radio Academy (source: Radio Academy Awards). It is clear that Sangita’s removal not only impacts loyal listeners but also detracts from the overall quality of journalism presented by LBC.

‘We believe in the importance of diverse voices in media and we value Sangita’s contribution towards this goal. We urge LBC to reconsider their decision and reinstate Sangita Myska immediately. Please sign this petition if you support our cause.’
