Lily Allen has admitted her recent birthday celebrations came under a cloud due to ‘some tricky circumstances’.
Over the past few months, it’s emerged that the singer had split from her husband, Stranger Things star David Harbour, 50.
The couple, who met on celebrity dating app Raya in 2019, married the following year.
However, in late 2024 Lily described ‘not being in a great place mentally’, before it was later revealed she’d split from David.
Soon after it emerged he had been back on dating apps while they were still together, and it was claimed he’d also been in a three-year-long secret relationship with a costume designer he met on the set of one of his movies.
Two months ago, David then appeared to go public with an aspiring actress and model 22 years his junior.

Over the weekend, on Friday May 2, Lily turned 40 but hinted to still dealing with the fallout from her marriage breakdown.
Posting a photo of her birthday cake, which read ‘Lily 40’, she tagged family and friends including her Miss Me? podcast co-host Miquita Oliver and fashion designers Kim Jones and Katie Hillier, as well as Miquita’s mum Andi Oliver.
She captioned the post: ‘Thank you to all my beauty friends and family who showed up for me and made my birthday a special one under some tricky circumstances. Love you all.’
Lily also shared two snaps of herself in a sheer blue camisole top, writing: ‘Happy Birthday to me.’

The singer’s godmother Rose Boyt – the daughter of artist Lucien Freud – also shared a post on Instagram about the party and paid tribute to Lily.
‘The birthday of my god-daughter @lilyallen. What a woman,’ she began.
‘Obviously at her christening when I stood there in the church with my fingers crossed behind my back and swore that I loved God and nobody smote me with their sword or whatever I had no idea that that small beloved child was going to turn into such a marvel.
‘Still as beloved, still as beautiful, still as creative, imaginative and bold. So happy to be on her team.’
Last month David spoke about his split from Lily for the first time. When asked about it by GQ magazine, he simply said: ‘Oh boy.’

Although he didn’t go into any more detail, when asked about his general wellbeing the actor admitted that while things can be ‘hard,’ he is trying to use this time in his life as a ‘period of growth’.
‘You know, it’s not that things ending aren’t hard, but it’s just that I’m choosing to make it a period of growth,’ he said.
‘And I feel like having the opportunity to be busy and work is really good, and also to delve into this deeper spiritual quest, which I’ve been on since the mystic saints days…’
A few days later he was spotted without his wedding ring at the London premiere of his latest movie, Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.
