The film picks up “years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis,” according to the official synopsis. “Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”

What’s New in the “Freakier Friday” Trailer

The trailer gives fans their first look at the new family dynamics — and a few surprise faces. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Rosalind Chao, Vanessa Bayer, and Mark Harmon join the cast. But one of the biggest reveals is the return of Freaky Friday heartthrob Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Anna’s old crush.

In a funny twist, Anna’s daughter Harper ends up in her mom’s body and tries to reunite Anna and Jake, all to stop her mom’s upcoming wedding.

Last month, Chad Michael Murray talked about the record store scene from the trailer, where Harper (in Anna’s body) tries to flirt with Jake but doesn’t quite succeed.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, he said, “There was so much creativity, and everybody just having fun. I loved watching Lindsay own it. It was like, ‘Oh, there she is.’” He added that it felt like a real moment for the whole cast. “Just the moment of Jake and the bike and pulling up, you could just see the 23-year-old version of all of us that knew the film, come to life.”
