NFL tight end Travis Kelce dreams are coming true after Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler confirmed he will star in the upcoming sequel.

The American footballer, 34, has seen his worldwide acclaim skyrocket after he started dating megastar Taylor Swift last year. And it is only growing in the most surprising ways.

The pro-athlete is now making a pivot to Hollywood with a confirmed cameo in Happy Gilmore 2. Actor Adam, 57, first played the titular aspiring golf player with a hot temper in 1996.

Almost 30 years on, and after plenty of teasing, the cameras are rolling once more on a sequel with Adam reprising his iconic role.

He discussed the latest updates around the project whileon the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, sharing that the film will start shooting in New Jersey imminently.

‘We start in a couple weeks. It’s good. We [him and co-writer Tim Herlihy] worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down.

‘People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. So many of the golfers are being nice and will be a part of it,’ he explained.

He then added that they had a spot ready for Travis on set. It comes a few months after Travis appeared on his podcast, New Heights, and said he would ‘do anything’ even a ‘f***ing extra’ to appear in Happy Gilmore 2 just as the sequel was announced.

‘I’ll do anything in the movie. I’ll be part of it any way I possibly can,’ he added at the time.

Well, ask and you shall receive.

‘Travis has… he mentioned it, so we have a nice something for Travis,’ Adam explained on The Tonight Show.

‘He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.

The original movie made $40million (£30million) at the global box office and remains one of the Hollywood actor’s most memorable roles.

And the excitement for a sequel has been palpable (even if fans are worried about it living up to the legacy first film).

As for Travis, Happy Gilmore 2 is not the first acting role he has landed in recent months. In May, he joined the cast for Ryan Murphy’s new FX series Grotesquerie opposite Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville.

And if that’s not enough, he is also in talks to lead Lionsgate’s new action-comedy Loose Cannons.

Travis has previously played a fictionalised version of himself in an episode of the comedy series Moonbase 8. Meanwhile, he has served as executive producer for the 2024 comedy film, My Dead Friend Zoe.

Discussing his role in Ryan’s new series, he has previously said he felt ‘like an amateur’ but hadn’t ‘gotten fired yet so we’re doing good.’

On Ryan’s faith in his acting ability, he added: ‘He seemed very confident that I’d be able to do this, and he kinda injected that in me the first conversation that we had. So hopefully I don’t bomb this for him.’
