If you think Macaulay Culkin is a wonderfully unique name, wait until you find out the star’s full moniker. Indeed, while he was given the name Macaulay Carson Culkin when he was born, he ended up changing his name in 2019 because of a joke.
While appearing at A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin, which marked the 35th anniversary of Home Alone, on Saturday, November 22, in California, the actor was asked about his legal name, according to People.
“My name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin,” he answered.
If you don’t know the story, the star explained the motivation behind changing his name in the first place while on “The Tonight Show” in 2018. He told Jimmy Fallon, âI was staring at my passport recently and stuff, and I was looking over my middle name. And I felt like, you know, I should probably spruce up my name a little bit.â
âWeâve narrowed it down to five options,â he explained. âIâve been polling friends, family, everything.â
He even decided to poll the public, which is how his new name was chosen.
What Were the Other Options?
GettyIf you wanted to change your middle name, what would you choose? As for Macaulay, he came up with five options, per People.
“The first of the atypical choices is Macaulay Culkin â meaning that his full name would be Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin,” People noted. The star explained, âSo if somebody comes up to me at the airport and says, âExcuse me, are you Macaulay Culkin?â I go, âWell Macaulay Culkin is my middle name.’â
Shark Week was the next option, and while Macaulay had never watched the popular series of shows that make up Shark Week, he still said, “I can live with that. Itâs very seasonal.â
âMy brother Kieran suggested Kieran,â Macaulay said of the next possibility. âI was like, âOh, okay.â Heâs obviously got good taste.â
TheMcRibIsBack was another option, about which the star said, âLook, it is back. I just tried one finally. Itâs a McRib. Itâs certainly back.â
The last choice came from his then-girlfriend, now-wife, Brenda Song, who opted for Publicity Stunt.
