Macaulay Culkin might have just cracked the code on how to bring âHome Alone” back without making fans roll their eyes. And any time Kevin McCallister himself hints at coming back, the internet collectively stops what itâs doing.Â
During his live show, âA Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin,â on Sunday, November 22, 2025, the actor finally opened up about his thoughts on stepping back into the franchise, according to People.Â
And spoiler alert: heâs not totally slamming the door shut. Yep, you read that right; Culkin is open to a Kevin return.
A Quick Franchise Recap
Culkin, of course, starred in the original âHome Aloneâ in 1990; which earned him a Golden Globe nomination and cemented his spot in holiday-movie history. And fans are still appreciating the storytelling of âHome Alone,â 35 years later.
Culkin also came back for âHome Alone 2: Lost in New Yorkâ in 1992. But after that, the franchise went in a whole new direction.Â
âHome Alone 3â arrived in 1997, âHome Alone 4â followed in 2002, and after a long 10-year break, âHome Alone: The Holiday Heistâ popped up in 2012, each with a brand-new cast and storyline. Then Disney+ made a reboot with âHome Sweet Home Aloneâ in 2021.
Cute idea, but Culkin didnât return after that second film. And thatâs exactly why fans probably took notice when he said he might be open to something new.
The best part? He already has a pitch, and honestly, itâs kind of brilliant.
His âNot Completely Allergicâ Return
When asked about stepping back into the âHome Aloneâ universe, Culkin said, âI wouldnât be completely allergic to it, [but] it would have to be just right,â (People). And it seems like heâs already put some thought into what âjust rightâ looks like.
âI kind of had this idea… Iâm either a widower or a divorcee,â he continued. âIâm raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out.â
Move over bumbling burglars; because this twist flips the entire formula. Instead of Kevin fending off the Wet Bandits, a.k.a. Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), weâd see Culkin as the parent getting shut out.
â[My son] won’t let me in,” he said, explaining that instead of robbers trying to break into the house, âheâs the one setting traps for me.â Tell me that wouldnât be the most chaotic, hilarious, full-circle moment the franchise has ever delivered.
A Heartfelt Twist on the Chaos
But itâs not just slapstick comedy and paint cans to the face. Culkin explained that âThe house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship… [a] âget let back into his heartâ kind of deal. That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have. Iâm not completely allergic to it, the right thing.â
It seems like heâs aiming for the sweet spot between nostalgia and something genuinely meaningful. Something that reflects where Kevin McCallister might actually be now. A stressed-out dad trying (and maybe failing) to keep up. A kid whoâs frustrated. A relationship that needs repairing. And traps. Lots of traps.
Letâs be real: fans would absolutely show up for this. It feels familiar but fresh and chaotic but heartfelt. Very in line with what made the first two movies work in the first place. If a âHome Aloneâ sequel ever needed a solid hook, this is it.
Now all we need is a studio exec to hear his pitch and say, âYep, greenlight it.â Until then, weâll just be over here imagining Macaulay Culkin dodging glitter bombs and holiday movie chaos⦠but, you know, in a wholesome father-son way.
