Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle was left pink in the face after an awkward encounter with Love Actually star Hugh Grant.

The 67-year-old was reporting for the broadcaster on the Silverstone grid ahead of the 2026 British Grand Prix.

While roaming with his microphone, Brundle spotted Grant in the VIP section, stood next to Queen’s Brian May, and proceeded to beckon the actor over.

Assuring him it would be a ‘quick word’, the sports journalist began by asking: ‘You’re with Ferrari today aren’t you, I believe?’

Grant responded by stating he was a ‘big fan’ of the car manufacturers who had invited him and two of his sons along to the racing event.

It was after this that Brundle launched into more chat, referencing Grant’s career. Unfortunately, he didn’t quite get it right.

Brundle asked: ‘Are you doing another round of The Gentlemen soon? Because I really loved that.’

Appearing to not hear Brundle the first time, Grant lent his ear so the interviewer could pose the question once more, asking: ‘Are you doing another series of The Gentlemen?’

Grant then took the opportunity to clarify with Brundle: ‘Well I did the film of The Gentlemen, I haven’t seen the TV series.’

Brundle responded, sounding surprised: ‘Oh right, it’s really good – you really must.’

The former racing driver quickly wrapped up the conversation here: ‘I’ve got 10 seconds left for the national anthem. Good to see you on the grid.’

Grant then returned to his spot behind the red rope while Brundle continued with his broadcasting.

While the Bridget Jones heart-throb wasn’t in Netflix’s The Gentlemen, starring Theo James, he was in the 2020 action-comedy with the same title and born from the same world.

Grant plays Fletcher, a cockney private investigator at a tabloid paper who will stop at nothing in the pursuit of information, specifically about drug kingpin Mickey Pearson.

The film follows American drug kingpin Pearson, played by Matthew McConaughey, who looks to sell his cannabis empire in the UK.

But Brundle wasn’t referring to the film which scores 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Instead, he was talking about the award-winning 2024 drama series, which is returning to our screens this year.

In the World Sportscar Championship winner’s defence, the film and TV series are both made by Guy Ritchie, and are closely related.

The latter came five years later and was nominated for three Emmy Awards, winning one for outstanding stunt coordination for comedy programming.

The Gentlemen TV series is available to watch on Netflix. The Gentlemen film is available to watch on ITVX.
