Menendez Brother’s Surprising Reaction to Cooper Koch’s Emmy Nod

Lyle Menendez Calls Cooper Koch From Prison

Just hours after his Emmy nod, actor Cooper Koch picked up a call from prison — it was Lyle Menendez on the line, calling to congratulate him.

Koch, who portrayed Erik Menendez in “Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story”, revealed on The Awardist podcast that Lyle reached out from prison to send his congratulations. “I spoke with Lyle today. He called to send his congrats and was very, very sweet,” said Koch. “And he was jealous that I was at Wimbledon this weekend.”

Koch described the project as “sort of like the end of an era” for the infamous case during the same podcast.

“What a great way to kind of put it to bed,” he said, “and hopefully that will also go with the brothers getting released by the end of the summer.”

Cooper Koch Celebrates Emmy Nomination, But Wishes Co-Stars Were Included

Cooper Koch was thrilled by the Emmy nod. However, he had hoped that his co-stars, Ari Graynor and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, would also be nominated.

“I talked to Ari; I’m devastated that she didn’t get it,” Koch told The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s the one sort of bummer from today. Same thing with Nicholas. I think both of them really deserved to be on there, so I’m super bummed they didn’t get nominated.”

The Menendez Brothers Face Upcoming Parole Hearing

Lyle & Erik Menendez have served 35 years behind bars for the 1989 murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. Prosecutors argued the motive was greed, while the defense claimed the brothers endured years of abuse by their parents — a stance critics dubbed the “abuse excuse.”

Earlier this year, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic reduced the brothers’ sentences from life without parole to 50 years to life. As per AP news, they cited their eligibility under California’s youthful offender law. “I’m not saying they should be released — it’s not for me to decide,” Judge Jesic said. “I do believe they’ve done enough in the past 35 years, that they should get that chance.”

Their parole hearing, initially scheduled for June 13, has been postponed to August 21 & 22. As per ABC News, no reason was given for the delay.
