After a viral video brought renewed attention to Tylor Chase, someone with firsthand experience of the road to recovery is offering help. Shaun Weiss, best known for his role in âThe Mighty Ducks,â has publicly reached out to support the former Nickelodeon star and help connect him with treatment resources.
GettyWeiss, who has openly shared his own journey from addiction to sobriety, said he was deeply moved after seeing footage of Chase living unhoused in Riverside, California.
Shaun Weiss Says He Has a Treatment Plan Ready
In a video he shared on Instagram on Monday, Weiss said he has already taken steps to help Chase.
âI have received many messages about [Tylor Chase],â Weiss said. âI reached out to some friends of mine, and we have a bed for him at a detox, and we have a place for him to go and get long-term treatment.â
Weiss explained that a place is available for Chase at the Eleven 11 Recovery Center in San Clemente, California, if Chase can be located and agrees to the plan.
âAll We Need to Do Now Is Find Himâ
Weiss told his followers that the next challenge is reaching Chase in person.
âAll we need to do now is find him. Iâm not in Los Angeles, or I would go look for him myself,â Weiss said.
The actor and addiction treatment advocate asked the public for help, stressing the urgency of the situation.
âIf anyone can get a face-to-face with him, please DM me so we can get him some help in time for the holiday,â he added.
Viral Video Sparks Widespread Concern
Concern for Chase grew after a video shared on social media showed the 36-year-old former star of âNedâs Declassified School Survival Guideâ living on the streets of Riverside.
The clip quickly circulated on TikTok and other platforms, prompting an outpouring of worry from fans.
After the video went viral, TikTok user Citlalli Wilson launched a GoFundMe to support Chaseâs recovery. The fundraiser raised more than $1,200 before it was shut down at the request of Chaseâs mother.
Chaseâs Mother Urges Medical Care Over Money
As per EW, in now-deleted posts, Wilson shared messages she said came from Chaseâs mother, explaining why the fundraiser was taken down.
According to those messages, she emphasized that Chase needed medical care, not financial donations.
âTyler needs medical attention, not money. But he refuses it. I appreciate your effort. But money would not be a benefit to him,â the message read.
She added, âI have gotten him several phones, but he loses them within a day or two. He canât manage money for his meds by himself.â
As concern continues to grow, Weiss said his focus remains on reaching Chase directly, earning his trust, and helping him access care. The effort is deeply personal for Weiss, who hopes Chase will accept the support now being offered.
Chase portrayed the fast-talking, precocious Martin Qwerly on the Nickelodeon teen sitcom âNedâs Declassified School Survival Guide,â appearing throughout the showâs three-season run.
Originally from Arizona, the former child actor later made brief appearances on âEverybody Hates Chris,â appeared in a short film, and took on a supporting role in the James Franco indie âGood Time Max.â
His most recent credit came in 2011, when he voiced Hank Newbern in the video game âL.A. Noire.â
Weiss, meanwhile, is best known for playing goalie Greg Goldberg in three films in âThe Mighty Ducksâ franchise. In 2022, he marked two years of sobriety, sharing before-and-after photos on social media alongside the message, âRecovery is possible.â
