Marion Cotillard and Partner Release Statement on Their Split

“After 18 years of living together, Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet have decided to separate by a common agreement,” the statement reads. “This decision was made out of mutual kindness.”

It goes on to say that Cotillard and Canet, “parents of two children, share here this decision in order to avoid any speculation, rumors and random interpretations.”

“By demonstrating transparency through this statement, Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet also express their desire for their privacy, and especially that of their two children, to be respected,” the statement finished.

The Former Couple Have Always Been Very Private

Cotillard and Canet co-starred in the 2003 film “Love Me If You Dare.” Canet was married to Diane Kruger at the time, and they split up in 2006. He and Cotillard began dating in 2007. Their son, Marcel, was born in 2012, and their daughter, Louise, in 2017.

The pair has collaborated on several projects, including “The Last Flight” and “Little White Lies.” Their most recent film was 2023’s “Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom.” Canet directed and starred as Astérix, while Cotillard played Cleopatra. They also produced the film “Karma” in 2025, which is scheduled for release in 2026.

The former couple have always been very private, but were forced to speak out in 2016. Rumors began circulating that she was having an affair with “Allied” co-star Brad Pitt. She and Canet were expecting their second child at the time.

“I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, “but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.”

“Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting,” Cotillard wrote. “He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need. Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well, thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing.”
