Patrick Mahomes’ Errant Throw to Travis Kelce Takes an Unexpected Turn

Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs throws during the third quarter in the game against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium on November 02, 2025

Patrick Mahomes has one of the strongest arms in football, but even the best quarterbacks have throws that don’t go as planned. During the Kansas City Chiefs’ 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 3, one of Mahomes’ passes took an unexpected turn — and created a viral moment that fans are still talking about.

Patrick Mahomes’ Pass Leads to a Viral Moment

The play happened late in the game at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. Mahomes tried to connect with tight end Travis Kelce on a pass to the end zone, but the ball missed its target and went off course. What happened next caught everyone’s attention.

The moment was caught on camera and quickly went viral, with the NFL sharing the clip and captioning it, “Confirmed, he’s okay 😅.”

Within hours, the video racked up thousands of views.

The camera operator, Justin Schwab, identified himself in the comments and in a comedic video shared to his own Instagram account.

“Hey that’s me,” he simply wrote beneath the clip.

Schwab goes by “vidsbyschwab” then shared his own video from the field with the caption, “Can you really blame me for jumping?”

Mahomes Reflects on Chiefs’ Loss to the Bills

While the viral play provided comic relief, it was a tough game for the Chiefs. Mahomes finished with 15 completions on 34 attempts for 250 yards. The team showed signs of life in the fourth quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run from Kareem Hunt and a successful two-point conversion, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Buffalo.

After the game, Mahomes told reporters the team needed to find more consistency. “We’ve had great moments. We’ve had bad moments. We got to be more consistent as a team. I got to be more consistent as a quarterback,” he said. “You got to learn from it fast. It’s going to be an uphill battle when we get back, but I think our guys are up for it.”

The loss dropped Kansas City to 5-4 on the season. The Chiefs will face the Denver Broncos next on Sunday, November 16, as they look to bounce back — and hopefully keep every pass on target this time.
