Reese Witherspoon, 49, Looks Just Like Her Mama in Sweet New Photos

Reese Witherspoon is the daughter of Mary Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Reese and John Draper Witherspoon. She is incredibly close to her mother and posted three sweet photos on Instagram on August 20, in honor of Betty’s birthday.

Reese Witherspoon Celebrates Her Mom’s Birthday

In the first photo, Witherspoon and her mama are both wearing black and smiling into the camera. The second image is more candid, capturing the actress as she applies red lipstick to Betty’s lips (the color looks great on her), and the third photo shows Betty smiling as she poses behind a tray filled with cupcakes. She is celebrating her 76th birthday!

“Happy birthday to my wonderful mother Betty, who always teaches me to appreciate homemade art, flowers in the garden, little babies, & all the dogs and horses in the world!” Witherspoon wrote in the caption. “Ps. She LOVES red lipstick so I bought her this one called PIP @westmanatelier.”

Fans have reacted to the post with shock at how similar the star and her mom are in appearance. “Wow you look so alike,” a comment reads. “Betty’s genes run strong! Happy birthday to her,“ another fan shared.

“Love her smile. Makes you wanna smile when you see it,” famed filmmaker and screenwriter Ava DuVernay wrote.

Actress Sharon Stone also reacted to the post, writing, “Omg you’re twins.” And actress Octavia Spencer left a sweet comment. “Betty!!!!! The best. Happy birthday,” she wrote.

This is not the first time Betty has made an appearance on her daughter’s social media. In May 2021, Witherspoon celebrated Betty on Mother’s Day with an Instagram post.

“Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful mom, Betty! The original Mama Bear who taught me to be fierce and loving. Kind and strong,” she wrote in the caption. “I love that I can always count on her for a great laugh and the best mothering advice.

Reese Witherspoon Shares Values She Grew up With

Witherspoon has previously opened up about how she was raised. “I grew up in Nashville, and my parents taught me to respect my elders. We’d say things like ‘yes, ma’am’ and ‘no, sir’ to adults. But kids in Los Angeles don’t do that,” she told People in 2009.

Witherspoon has three children, Ava Elizabeth and Deacon Reese, whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, and Tennessee James Toth, with her ex-husband, Jim Toth.

In her interview with People, the “Legally Blonde” actress also shared how she raises her children with the same values. “I’ve drawn the line at my children calling adults by their first names. I tell them they can call people ‘Miss Shannon’ or ‘Miss Heather,’ but that using only first names is too familiar. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned,” she said.
