Prince Harry has jokingly apologized to the people of Canada after he was pictured at game four of the World Series wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap. The royal family member received some criticism online afterwards as the Toronto Blue Jays were the Dodgers’ opponents and Prince Harry has a close association with the country through his father, King Charles III, who is head of state of Canada as it is part of the Commonwealth. Many felt that he should have shown his support for the Canadian baseball side rather than the U.S. franchise.
Prince Harry Offers Apology to Canada
Speaking in an interview with Canadian broadcaster CTV while visiting the country to take part in remembrance events, Prince Harry made it clear that he understood the mistake and poked fun at himself while apologising. The royal was one of many celebrities who were pictured at the high profile sporting event last week.Â
When asked if he had anything to say about wearing the Los Angeles Dodgers cap, the prince was quick to offer his apologies. He said, “Firstly, I would like to apologise to Canada for wearing it.â Prince Harry then went on to justify the decision by saying that he didn’t have a lot of options when it came to wearing the cap. “Secondly, I was under duress. There wasn’t much choice,â he explained.
The decision came down to a number of factors, including the fact that he thought it was the polite thing to do considering he had been invited by the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers to sit in the dugout and that his wife, Meghan Markle, is a native of Los Angeles.
Injecting some humor into the situation, Prince Harry also used the excuse of his thinning hair for needing to wear something on his head. He joked, âWhen you’re missing a lot of hair on top, and you’re sitting under flood lights, you’ll take any hat that’s available.â
After donning a Toronto Blue Jays cap, Prince Harry also revealed to the interviewer that he supported the Canadian team throughout the final three games of the World Series. He concluded his response by quipping that he might face a hostile reception when he returns home having admitted he was rooting against the Dodgers.
