Golden Globe-winning actress Sally Kirkland has died at 84, leaving behind a Hollywood legacy and a small but loving family.

Sally Kirkland’s Health Struggles and Final Days

Before her passing, a GoFundMe was launched to help cover Kirkland’s medical expenses. “This past year Sally fractured four bones in her neck, right wrist, and her left hip,” the page read. “While recovering, she developed two separate life-threatening infections.”

The fundraiser explained that her insurance coverage was limited, adding, “As the days pass, lack of proper care greatly diminishes Sally’s chance of a full recovery. However, with the right medical support, we know she has a strong chance of overcoming this setback and returning to the work she loves.”

The campaign also shared how beloved the actress was in her community. “Sally has been more than just a friend—she has been a maternal figure, offering encouragement, wisdom, and love when it was needed most,” it stated. “She has never had the luxury of a life partner or children to lean on in difficult times. But she has always prioritized being there for others, giving everything she has to her craft, her church, her friends, and her community.”

Sally Kirkland’s Husbands, Family, and Career Legacy

Kirkland was married twice. Her first marriage was to Michael R. Jarrett in August 1974, which ended in divorce the following year. She later married actor Mark Hebert in 1985 after nearly a decade of dating. That marriage also ended in divorce, and the two kept the details of their separation private.

Born in New York City to Vogue fashion editor Sally Kirkland Sr. and metals dealer Fredric M. Kirkland, the future actress trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She became part of Andy Warhol’s circle and was named one of his “13 Most Beautiful Women” in 1964. Four years later, she made headlines as the first actress to appear fully nude on stage in the off-Broadway play “Sweet Eros.”

Kirkland went on to appear in more than 200 films and TV shows, including “The Sting,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “JFK,” and “Bruce Almighty.” Her 1987 role in “Anna” earned her an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win, cementing her as one of Hollywood’s most fearless performers.

She also mentored countless actors, including Barbra Streisand, Sandra Bullock, and Liza Minnelli. Kirkland is survived by her godson and filmmaker Coty Galloway (Baily), three cousins—Brookie, Katherine, and Tina Kirkland—and several close friends who stood by her side in her final years.
