Sam Thompson is known for his charismatic personality and sense of humour, but one moment he shared with King Charles left him particularly nervous.
The former Made in Chelsea star, 33, took to the red carpetat the star- studded King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration on Monday, and told Metro all about his relationship with the royals and his new girlfriend, Talitha Balinska, who he hailed as ‘beautiful’.
Sam, who has been announced as an ambassador for the charity, told us: ‘To be honest, to be a King’s ambassador is probably one of the highest pinnacles of my career.’
But despite having previously met His Majesty, Sam doesn’t feel at ease with him just yet.
‘I met the King last year, but I wasn’t invited to the palace this year. Maybe it’s because I shook his hand weirdly last time and I called him “mate”.
‘And then I realised I got it wrong, called him “sir” and realised he’s not even a f*****g sir! I finally said Your Majesty and by that point I was sweating.’

It’s not the only awkward moment Sam has faced recently, after he was confronted with an incredibly awkward question live on-air when a listener asked how he felt about his ex Zara McDermott dating Louis Tomlinson.
The reality star ended his long-term relationship with Zara at the end of 2024, and in the months since, both have moved on publicly.
While Zara has struck up a relationship with the former One Direction singer, Sam quietly started a new chapter of his own with Talitha.
However, his love life was not the topic listeners were most interested in when he stepped in to host Hits Radio Breakfast for Fleur East, Will Best, and James Barr.
Instead, things took an unexpected turn when a caller brought up Zara’s new boyfriend in a very direct way, referencing the One Direction track Steal My Girl.
He admitted he still enjoys the song, even joking that it regularly makes it onto his playlist during tube journeys.

He said: ‘Holly, I am live on air! How do I feel? First of all, and I mean this when I say it, it’s a brilliant song. I still listen to it on the tube.
‘I know that sounds weird but I listen to it on the tube all the time.’
More importantly, he made it clear there is no resentment lingering when it comes to Zara’s new relationship.
Despite the uncomfortable mention of his ex, Sam is now happier than ever with Talitha, telling Metro: ‘She’s moved in, things are so good.
‘How did I get so lucky? I do not know, because my chat sucks as well. It’s the first time we’ve done a red carpet as well so it’s great.’
