It may come as a surprise to younger readers, but there was a time when celebrities weren’t as obsessed with seeming ‘nice’ all the time.

Indeed, back in the ’90s and 2000s (those times seem half the world away now), some stars loved tearing chunks out of each other.

And nothing proves this more than Sara Cox and Sarah Cawood’s old W***** of the Week segment on their Channel 4 series The Girlie Show.

It was basically the TV equivalent of PopBitch! and, as such, reported on misbehaving celebs.

Unfortunately for Sara, one week she decided to target Patsy Kensit, who was then dating Oasis frontman and parka aficionado Liam Gallagher.

And some might say that Liam didn’t take people being mean about his girlfriend well, as Sara, 51, recently admitted to The Sun.

Sara Cox, host of the Radio 2 Breakfast show 2026 The Sara Cox Breakfast Show launches on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds this morning, with Lizzo?s ?About Damn Time? as opening track Speaking on Radio 2?s Breakfast Show for the first-time at 6:31am today, Sara greets listeners: ?It is 6:31am. It?s The Sara Cox Breakfast Show! Monday 6th July 2026. Hello to your howdys, to your dafts of?come on! You know the nonsense I love.?

“W**ker of the Week was so mean,’ she said. ‘It was like anyone was fair game if you’re in the public eye.

‘I used to present them in the production meeting quite proudly — ‘Here’s this week’s w**ker’. And the producers would be, like, ‘Great!’

‘I was absolutely buzzing that they liked my writing. It would be a minute-and-a-half takedown of someone in the public eye, be it Chris Evans or Liam Gallagher. And then I did Patsy Kensit.’

Soon after, Sara ran into the Manc musician while they were both on Top of the Pops, and their encounter definitely (maybe) wasn’t a pleasant one.

For reasons she can’t quite explain, she went over to say hi, well aware that she’d just insulted his partner.

‘I don’t know why I went over — I’d called his wife a w***** on the telly the
“I was, like, ‘Oh, I’ll go and say hello. I really like his music”.’

Liam was, in her words, ‘quite rightly miffed with her.’

‘He was, like, “Yeah, you can f* off, you slag!” I don’t know what else I was expecting.”

If you’re wonder-wall-ing if Sara could roll with it and listen to Oasis after that, the answer is no.

She said: ‘They were huge, but I was, like, ‘Well, that’s ruined Definitely, Maybe for the foreseeable.’

If you’re worried about Liam and Sara’s feud though, you can stop crying your heart out.

It seems like Liam doesn’t look back in anger, and Sara says she’s met him since and she ‘doesn’t think there’s any ill feeling there now.’

I guess celebrity beef doesn’t live forever…
