<p id=”par-1_32″><a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/sean-diddy-combs”>Sean “Diddy” Combs</a> won’t be celebrating his personal Independence Day on July 4. The hip-hop mogul will remain behind bars as he awaits sentencing following Wednesday’s <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/sean-diddy-combs-verdict-guilty.html/”>verdict in his high-profile criminal case</a>. </p>
<p id=”par-2_69″>On July 2, a jury found Combs guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges. The mixed verdict was widely seen as <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/sean-diddy-combs-defense-team-shed-tears-joy-massive-win.html/”>a victory for Diddy</a>, who was facing the possibility of decades in prison if convicted on all counts. He could serve 10 years on each of the prostitution-related charges but will likely do less than that. </p>

<p id=”par-3_101″>Following the verdict, the rapper’s lawyer argued that he should be released on bond as he waits to learn how much time he will have to serve. But the prosecution argued that he was a flight risk, and that his history of violence was enough to keep him in jail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn for the immediate future. Diddy has been locked up at the MDC since he was arrested last September. They also shared letters from witnesses – including <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/sean-diddy-combs-tried-control-aspect-cassies-life-said-friend.html/”>Diddy’s ex Cassie Ventura</a> – attesting to the danger they felt he could pose if he was released. </p>
<p id=”par-4_54″>Ventura’s lawyer Douglas Wigdor wrote a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian asking that “the Court deny Mr. Combs to be released pending his sentencing,” adding that his client “believes that Mr. Combs is likely to pose a danger to the victims who testified in this case, including herself, as well as to the community.”</p>

<p id=”par-5_47″>Diddy’s defense suggested he be released on a $1 million bond. They also proposed that he surrender his passport, submit to drug testing, and limit his travel. But Judge Arun Subramanian agreed with the prosecutors that his propensity for violence was enough reason to deny him bail. </p>
<p id=”par-6_47″>The sentencing hearing is set for October 3, but it could be moved up. Prosecutors indicated that they intended to seek a sentence of 51 to 63 months, while his lawyers want 21 to 27 months. He will receive credit for the time he has already served. </p>
<p id=”par-7_17″>Combs spoke to his family before he left the courtroom at the end of the sentencing hearing. </p>
