Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced isn’t the only Assassin’s Creed remake underway at Ubisoft, according to an insider, but which one is it?

Ubisoft is set to reveal the remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag in a presentation on Thursday, but it seems like some details have emerged ahead of time.

The remake, entitled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced, has been rumoured for years but its existence was only confirmed last month, in a strangely half-hearted fashion, via a single image in a blog post which never mentioned the game.

There’s been no footage from the title yet but according to a new report, some features from the original will be missing in the upcoming remake.

According to Insider Gaming, Black Flag Resynced will not feature any of the original game’s DLC, most notably the single-player story expansion Freedom Cry, which was centred around Edward Kenway’s quartermaster Adéwalé.

It’s claimed Ubisoft doesn’t plan to release any DLC either, if the remake is successful, with the focus being squarely on Edward’s campaign.

Additionally, the multiplayer mode, where you hunt down enemy players online, will also not appear in the remake. It was largely the same as the multiplayer seen in Assassin’s Creed 3, but with some new modes and features.

According to the same report, Ubisoft is in development on ‘at least one more’ Assassin’s Creed remake, with future remakes after that title dependent on the success of Black Flag: Resynced.

While there’s no details on what the other remake is, the obvious candidate is Assassin’s Creed 2. The Ezio trilogy, which encompasses Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations, are the most beloved in the series, so it feels like Ubisoft would be foolish not to capitalise on the character’s popularity.

The only other possibility we could imagine is a revamp of the 2007 original, which might make more sense if they want to redo the Desmond Miles saga from the beginning, but the present day storyline barely makes sense at the best of times and few people cared about it even at the time.

Outside of Black Flag: Resynced, Ubisoft has confirmed it is working on three other games in the series. This includes the next mainline instalment, codenamed Hexe; a PvP multiplayer title codenamed Invictus; and mobile title Assassin’s Creed: Jade.
