Ethan Browne, actor and son of singer Jackson Browne, has died aged 52.

In a heartbreaking post, the Running on Empty hitmaker, 77, announced with ‘deep sorrow’ the death of his son Ethan on Tuesday morning.

His cause of death is unclear at this stage.

‘It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away,’ Jackson wrote on social media.

‘We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment.’

Major, who married the singer in 1975, died by suicide at age 30 in March 1976, when Ethan was a toddler.

Born on November 2, 1973 in Los Angeles, Ethan appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone with his dad at just six months old.

He was a model and actor who appeared in 1997’s Hackers and Kate Hudson’s film Raising Helen in 2004. Ethan also worked as a DJ, founding label Spinside Records, and worked as a model in campaigns for designers like Isaac Mizrahi.

Producer Mark Ronson recalled becoming friends with Ethan in New York City in his memoir, describing him as ‘the real deal – with an angular face and soulful gaze that seemed to reveal his deepest truths, even from a glossy page,’ according to People.

In a 2021 interview with Route Magazine Jackson said being a father was his ‘main focus’ in life following the loss of his wife Major.

‘I only had two things that I hoped I could fit together: being a songwriter and a father,’ he said. ‘And I looked at it like this, if I have to only be a father, I hope I’ll know it, and just do that.’

The following year, Jackson praised Ethan as being a ‘great father’ himself, as well as a ‘great man’ overall.

‘I love seeing him with his kids. When I see him in his movies, modeling, with his daughter, and being such a great dad, it makes me very proud. It makes me feel I’ve done something really right in my life,’ he added.
