A Saturday Night Live UK cast member was rushed to the hospital after cutting his hand with a sword… and then passing out.
The UK version of the American comedy institution first aired earlier this year, making household names of its cast.
Among them is Paddy Young, 34, who presents the show’s Weekend Update segment with Taskmaster star Ania Magliano.
And in a story as unbelievable as the fake experts he interviews out on the show, he took to Instagram to reveal that he’d ‘fainted’ after cutting himself on a samurai sword.
He was then rushed to hospital, after which he shared a (weekend) update on the dramatic injury.
Thankfully, it seems as though the comedian has taken his war wound in typically good humour.
Sharing a picture of himself in a hospital bed, Paddy wrote: ‘Cut my finger with a samurai sword !!!’
Referencing comedy trio (and pals) Bebe Cave, Ed Night and Horatio Gould, he continued: ‘Thank you Bebe, Ed, Horatio for breastfeeding me back to good health.
‘Thank you Sam [Campbell] for bringing the sword to my home and running away when I fainted.’
Other pictures in the post showed Paddy posing on a sofa with his bandaged hand, next to Ed and Horatio, as well as selfies with Sam and Bebe.
Paddy also joked that his Edinburgh Fringe run was ‘90% sold out,’ while his tendon was ‘90% lacerated’ and ‘aura 100% lost.’
‘Tour selling fast – see u there,’ he finished.
The comments below Paddy’s post were full of well-wishes from his fellow comedians and SNL UK stars.
This included co-anchor Ania, who commented: ‘Oh no not your beatboxing hand!!!’
Co-star Al Nash said that he ‘felt the aura loss from three scrolls away,’ while producer Susia Hall cried only: ‘Paddyyyyyy!!!!’
SNL UK director Will Farrell joked: ‘Sam told me he thought the sword wouldn’t have cut you if you were honorable.’
‘Fully thought the arm cast was part of your costume on Sunday 😂’ joked comedian Amy Webber, of his show FLOGGERZ,which he performs with Last One Laughing runner-up – and sword-slinger – Sam Campbell.
Paddy responded to all of the above with emojis only – little surprise, given the dirty great bandage on his hand.
Earlier this year, Paddy reflected on his appointment to the Sky One sketch show, joking about how it might one day allow him to buy a house.
Speaking to Metro on the red carpet at the BAFTA Awards, he and co-star Emma Sidi were asked how they thought SNL UK might change their lives.
‘We don’t know right now how much. But it seems like maybe it might,’ he answered.
‘We had an interview with Dermot O’Leary and I thought: “Surely I’ll own a house one day,”‘ he added.
He described his sudden change in attitude as ‘the O’Leary effect.’
Paddy and the SNL UK cast will return for the show’s second series, which was officially confirmed in May.
According to Deadline, it will be back for 12 more episodes, set to air in Autumn 2026.
Producer Lorne Michaels, the brain behind the original American iteration, said: ‘I’m incredibly proud of our team and the show. It keeps getting better every week. I’m grateful to [Sky Group CEO] Dana Strong and Sky for believing in and supporting SNL UK. I’m excited for the season ahead.’
