He’s best known for his hip-hop anthems and is widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time, but now Snoop Dogg is branching out.

The 52-year-old American record producer joins a long list of celebs dipping their toe in the football management pool, having become the co-owner of Swansea City AFC.

Snoop—real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.—invested in the Welsh footie team, admitting that he’s ‘proud to be part of Swansea City’.

Hoping the players will drop it like it’s hot on the pitch under his eye, he said in a statement: ‘My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City.

‘The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working-class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me.

‘I’m proud to be part of Swansea City. I am going to do all I can to help the club, and I look forward to getting to know all my YJBS.’

Swansea City’s ownership group plans to leverage Snoop’s celebrity status to enhance the team’s profile.

The ownership group said in a statement: ‘To borrow a phrase from Snoop’s back catalogue, this announcement is the next episode for Swansea City as we seek to create new opportunities to boost the club’s reach and profile.

‘Snoop’s colossal global fanbase and audience will certainly help us do that, and he has made clear to us throughout this process just how excited he is at the prospect of joining the club.’

On the A-lister’s love of the game, they added: ‘Snoop has openly shared his love of football and his desire to be involved in the game, and we expect his involvement to support us putting as competitive a team as possible out on the field.

‘During our conversations, Snoop spoke about having worn many football shirts without ever having felt a club to be the right fit for him. We are delighted that putting on a Swansea shirt has proven to be that right fit.’

Meanwhile, Swansea City chief executive Tom Gorringe is ‘delighted’ to have joined forces with the rap legend.

With Snoop’s enjoyment of soccer ‘well documented’, he praised the star’s ‘passion’ for the project and ‘helping [them] continue to raise the profile of the club to as wide an audience as possible.’

The announcement may appear random, but Snoop previously teased some sort of involvement with the club by unveiling their home jersey for the 2025-26 season online to his millions of followers.

Furthermore, a mural of Snoop is set to be unveiled at the club’s stadium to ‘mark taking his place as part of [their] club ownership’.

As estimated by Celebrity Net Worth, it’s said Snoop has an overall net worth of around $160million (£119.5m).

Of course, this is far from the first time a music or acting legend has decided to dabble in sport by spending their millions.

Most notably, in 2020, Wrexham AFC received huge financial investment from actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

Their takeover saw the club enter a whole new era of success and propelled it into the global spotlight through their docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham.

Since the series aired and the longtime pals have continued getting stuck in, the club has built an unexpected international fanbase and, after struggling financially, generated over $35m (£26m) in revenue last year.

In 2014, One Direction pop star Louis Tomlinson also confirmed his takeover of his beloved Doncaster Rovers, with the club later signing him on a one-year non-contract deal, allowing him to play in charity games.

There are plenty more examples, from Olly Murs investing in Coggeshall Town for six years before stepping down to focus on music in 2022, to Jade Thirlwall becoming a shareholder in local club South Shields in 2020 and Stormzy taking over AFC Croydon Athletic in 2023.

Basically, multi-millionaire celebs buying footie clubs isn’t new—even Delia Smith has shares in Norwich City—so here’s hoping Swansea City is destined for more greatness under the Doggfather.
