Sydney Sweeney Promotes ‘Christy’ At NASCAR Championship Event

Sydney Sweeney.

Sydney Sweeney’s biographical sports drama movie “Christy” is just four days away from release, and the actress — who’s both starring in and producing the film — is going hard on the promotion trail.

The 28-year-old actress wowed fans and attendees in her revealing dress at Variety’s 2025 Power of Women event last week. In her most recent public outing, she was seen at the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, November 2. The official NASCAR X account posted a picture of the star captioned “We’ve got @sydney_sweeney in the house for today’s title fight! 🥊 Watch @ChristyMovie in theaters November 7.”

Sweeney — who has starred in television shows like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Euphoria,” and “The White Lotus,” and movies like Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 period comedy-drama “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” 2023’s romantic comedy “Anyone but You,” and 2024’s superhero offering “Madame Web” — gave a rousing speech to the lively crowd before the championship-deciding race got underway.

Sydney Sweeney Spoke of the ‘Grit’ and ‘Determination’ Required to Win

Sweeney — who had delivered another inspiring speech at the aforementioned Variety event — emerged on the stage holding a checkered flag and gave drivers William Byron, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe a reminder of what winning would mean for their legacies.

The actress said, “Most days, this checkered flag means victory, but today, it means something more; a dream realized, a life changed, a name that will never be forgotten. In my new film ‘Christy,’ I play a warrior. A fighter who refused to quit. ‘Christy’ is about grit, about determination — the same spirit that it takes to make it to the Championship Four. So, to our future champion, remember what this flag stands for. You’re not just another driver, you’re a NASCAR champion.”

It was Larson who ultimately prevailed, denying his rivals in a thrilling two-lap dash to the end. He told NASCAR.com that he was uncertain of his victory during the race, saying, “Never did I feel like I had it.”

Sweeney Wasn’t the Only Star in Attendance

As per NASCAR’s official Instagram account, Sydney Sweeney wasn’t the only big star in attendance for Sunday’s big championship-deciding race. WNBA star Sophie Cunningham was also there.

The Indiana Fever shooting guard/small forward wowed the crowds alongside Sweeney, with NASCAR’s Instagram post highlighting the pair with a video captioned, “The stars are out in Phoenix. Welcome to the NASCAR Cup Series Championship, @sydney_sweeney and @sophie_cham! 🏁”

Cunningham herself commented on the video, having clearly had a great time at the event. She wrote, “so fun 😍🔥❤️.”

Instagram users had their say on the glamorous pair’s attendance, with one writing, “I’m interested in NASCAR again” and another commenting, “Sophie and Sydney. America’s Sweethearts.”

As touched upon already, “Christy” will be in a theater near you on Friday, November 7. Sweeney’s performance the titular role is tipped to place her firmly in the running for the Academy Award for Best Actress, so don’t miss it.
