The Callous Way Kenneth Iwamasa Acted After Matthew Perry’s Death Revealed

The journey to bring the people responsible for Matthew Perry’s accidental overdose death to justice has concluded. Perry’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, is the last of five people to be sentenced for their involvement in the death. While tragic and heartbreaking details have poured from this story for years, a victim impact statement just revealed how callous Iwamasa was in the hours after Perry’s passing. A close friend of the Friends star revealed Iwamasa was “loving” driving Matthew’s car. The incident occured less than 24 hours after the actor’s death.

Lisa Calio, a close friend of Matthew Perry, wrote a victim impact statement to Judge Sherilyn Garnett, who presided over the sentencing. In the deeply personal letter, Calio said Kenneth Iwamasa’s sole concern in the days, weeks, and years after Matthew Perry’s death had been to maintain the lifestyle he had become accustomed to. She suggested Iwamasa made little effort to conceal how much he had enjoyed the lifestyle Perry’s employment afforded him. In fact, he was callous enough to text her following Perry’s death from one of the actor’s cars. The iconic actor had died just hours earlier.

Calio said that she received a text from Iwamasa around 4 am informing her that he was driving a car belonging to Perry from Hollywood Hills to Pacific Palisades. She wrote that he was “loving it.” Calio suggested Iwamasa showed no remorse and had little grief over Perry’s death. She also noted he took no accountability for the death, despite being the one to inject the fatal dose. Iwamasa had known the sitcom star for decades. She went on to note he opted not to sound the alarm on multiple occasions when it was clear the actor’s drug use had spiraled out of control.

Calio completed her impact statement by telling Judge Garnett that “Whatever sentence he receives, it won’t be long enough.” She went on to predict that “He will always be known as the man who killed Matthew Perry.”
