The ROG Xbox Ally won’t be the only handheld PC with Xbox features, but its base asking price will make your eyes water.
We’re just over a month away from the launch of the ROG Xbox Ally, a rebranded Asus portable device that Microsoft hopes will help it break into the handheld PC market.
And yet Microsoft still refuses to share pricing details, saying last month that it needs ‘more time to figure out the macro-economic impact to pricing’. Meanwhile, leaks point to both the standard and more powerful Ally X models costing roughly $549.99 and $899.99, respectively.
Those prices are far from cheap but, compared to a new handheld from rival company Lenovo, they’ll seem downright affordable as Lenovo’s alternative is more than $1,000… and that’s the least expensive option.
In terms of UK pricing, if those leaked Xbox Ally details are accurate, then the standard model will cost £499.99, making it £100 cheaper than the original Asus mode.
The Xbox Ally X, though, will cost £799.99, which is exactly how much the Asus Ally X costs. This is likely done so as not to completely undermine Asus’ own model. The Xbox version is more or less identical so, if it were cheaper, nobody would buy the Asus version.
However, the recently announced Lenovo Legion Go 2, an upgraded follow-up to the original Legion Go handheld, is slated to cost $1,099.99. There’s no official UK pricing but that puts it at roughly £812.

What’s more, that’s only for the base version that offers 16GB of RAM and a storage space of 1TB. There are three additional versions that come with increased RAM and storage space, and they get increasingly expensive:
- 32GB RAM / 1TB SSD – $1,199.99 / £886
- 32GB RAM / 1TB SSD – $1,349.99 / £996
- 32GB RAM / 2TB SSD – $1,479.99 / £1,092

These prices were unveiled over the weekend, but they’ve started circulating more widely after Lenovo announced it too has struck a partnership deal with Xbox.
Microsoft won’t be releasing an Xbox branded Lenovo handheld, but the Legion Go 2 will receive the Xbox full-screen experience, one of the features being promoted for the Xbox Ally.
This gives you the option to replace the standard Windows desktop with a user interface similar to the one seen on Xbox consoles and the Xbox PC app. Aside from offering familiarity to established Xbox owners, Microsoft says it frees up resources to allow for better game performance.
According to a statement shared with The Verge, the Legion Go 2 won’t come with the Xbox full-screen experience when it launches in October (the same month as the Xbox Ally), but it will be incorporated in a spring 2026 update.
We have to assume this is Microsoft trying to cover as many bases as possible, to try and invite PC handheld fans into the Xbox ecosystem regardless of their handheld of choice.
It’s certainly not going to be a key selling point that’ll incentivise new customers. After all, the PC handheld market is already very niche and considering Lenovo’s asking price, the Legion Go 2 is clearly being marketed to an even smaller niche of that niche.
From what we can tell, the Legion Go 2 is the most expensive handheld on the market, overtaking the Ayaneo Kud, which has a starting price of $999. Compared to that, the Xbox ROG Ally seems positively cheap.
