Tom Holland’s father has confirmed his son is engaged to Zendaya but fans are confused about one part of the proposal.
Dune actress Zendaya, 28, sparked speculation she was set to wed Tom, also 28, after debuting a sparkling diamond on her ring finger at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
Comedian Dominic Holland put the rumours to bed in a blog post on Friday where he contrasted how his son approached his proposal to how he handled his to Tom’s mother Nikki.
In the post on his Patreon account, Dominic wrote: ‘Tom, as you know by now was very incredibly well prepared. He had purchased a ring.
‘He had spoken with her father and gained permission to propose to his daughter.
‘Tom had everything planned out… When, where, how, what to say, what to wear…

‘I on the other hand was woefully ill-prepared, almost as though I wasn’t taking it seriously.’
He also noted for most men the stress of purchasing an engagement ring is being able to afford it, but for his son he suspects he was ‘more concerned with the stone, its size and clarity, its housing, which jeweller’.
While some fans fawned over their relationship on X, others were surprised that Tom asked for permission from Zendaya’s dad, and queried what century we are living in.

‘He even chose his outfit. That’s really adorable!’ raved @maldita_meg, with @ComplexCut agreeing: ‘He even picked out his outfit. That’s so cute.’
‘Tom just sets the bar too high. It seems like the stock for being an old-school gentleman is on the rise,’ said @kuroitsune.
‘THIS IS GENTLEMAN,’ said @trexonx19, but @operakatz asked: ‘This whole “permission to propose” thing…isn’t Zendaya a grown woman?’
‘Gained permission? Is it 1600?’ echoed @lisainholland, while @alibrooke4ever said: ‘In the name of feminism, guys need to stop asking their girlfriend’s father’s “permission” to propose god.’
‘Asking her father for permission… what century is this?’ said @andreilsrina, while @loukaonline said, ‘learning people still do the “ask her father first” thing is sooo….’ before a green naucious emoji.

‘Others though, were simply made up by the news, as @sapphire_reacts said: ‘Can the universe send me a man like Tom please.’
The Hollywood stars have been romantically linked since 2021 after starring opposite each other in Marvel superhero film Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Tom’s father also admitted he has worried about how the spotlight could put strain on their relationship, saying: ‘I do fret that their combined stardom will amplify their spotlight and the commensurate demands on them and yet they continually confound me by handling everything with aplomb.”
He added: ‘And even though show-business is a messy place for relationships and particularly so for famous couples as they crash and burn in public and are too numerous to mention, with us an example, with Nikki helming this family and my “wisdom” on tap and a study in getting things mostly wrong and yet somehow right at the same time, I am completely confident they will make a successful union.’
