Top WWE superstar admits he may never wrestle again after horror injury

WWE superstar Big E on SmackDown

WWE superstar Big E has admitted he may ‘never be cleared’ to wrestle after breaking his neck two years ago.

The 38-year-old former world champion, suffered two broken vertebrae after an in-ring accident on SmackDown in March 2022, and he has now given fans an update on his in-ring future.

‘Two year neck scans are in. Things are unchanged,’ he told his fans on X. ‘My C1 [vertebrae] has healed fibrously but has not formed new bone.

‘I’m not medically cleared and truthfully, I may never be cleared.’

There is some positive news though, as the New Day fan favourite insisted he isn’t in any pain, and he’s living a full life away from the squared circle.

He added: ‘I am blessed to be free of pain, immensely happy and otherwise healthy. Life is good.’

Last year, after his first 12-month checkup, Big E had told fans that doctors had advised him against wrestling.

‘We did the year checkup and all that stuff looked great,’ he said.

‘But on the other side, I talked to spine specialists, people who have worked on other people in the company and done their fusions and they said like “Hey, I would not wrestle again if I were you.” ‘

He has still stayed involved, as he was in Philadelphia for WrestleMania 40 and hosted the Slammy Awards with Cathy Kelley.

Meanwhile, this week Big E also confirmed he is in a relationship with Kris Yim, the sister of SmackDown superstar Mia Yim, as he shared pictures from an adorable couples photoshoot.

He wrote: ‘My neck is broken but my heart is whole.’

‘Ayyyy publicly official,’ replied Mia, whose husband and fellow wrestler Keith Lee added: ‘This caption broke me 😂😂😂,’ while Naomi, who is married to Jimmy Uso, replied: ‘My fav couple ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😂’

Big E’s neck break happened during an unfortunate incident with Yorkshire-born wrestler Ridge Holland, who has been rocked with confidence issues after abuse from fans in the wake of the accident.

Speaking exclusively told Metro.co.uk, he previously said: ‘It’s just been a slow process, getting back into it and learning how to trust myself, and obviously building that trust up with the boys as well. The trust of your peers is what we aim for.’

The real life situation has been turned into an onscreen storyline in recent weeks, as he vowed to step away from the ring before returning to attack Joe Gacy.
