Whoopi Goldberg is taking a week off from her co-hosting duties on “The View.” Page Six says the co-host confirmed in an announcement on Monday, November 17, that she would be absent for the entire week, and explained her time away is because “I’m in Italy, working.”
So why is Whoopi Goldberg in Italy? The report reveals she is slated to star in the Italian soap opera “Un Posto Al Sole.â She enthusiastically announced her involvement over the summer, telling her fans, “Good afternoon or good evening. I just wanted to stop in and say how happy I am to be joining the cast of ‘Un Posto Al Sole.’ They know it’s a crazy idea, I know it’s a crazy idea. But what a wonderful thing to do.”
The “Star Trek” actress went on, “I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited.” She then admitted, “My Italian’s not perfect, but we worked it out.” Goldberg signed off by blowing a kiss to her fans saying, “Ciao. See you on TV.”
Whoopi Goldberg Just Celebrated Her 70th Birthday
On Thursday, November 13, “The View” celebrated Goldberg’s 70th birthday with some fun on-air festivities. The revelry began when the co-hosts paraded onto the stage showing off their dance moves with Goldberg leading the way. The “Ghost” actress wore an oversized chambray shirt, khaki cargos, and brown sandals for her special day. She accessorized with black-rimmed glasses and a pair of silver hoops. The talk show cast danced to the 1971 hit “Respect Yourself” by The Staple Singers before settling in for the broadcast.
“Welcome to ‘The View.’ We just walked out to one of my favorite songs,” said the star. People ask me ‘What that song?’ And it’s cause it’s my birthday, and it’s because that’s my mantra these days. Respect yourself. If you don’t respect yourself, nobody’s gonna do it!” she proclaimed.
Shen then heartwarmingly revealed that she shares a birthday with her granddaughter and sent a shout-out to the special relative.
