Ariana Grande Speaks About ‘Wicked’ Giving Her A Love For Acting Again

In a Q&A hosted at the Saban Media Center Wolf Theater during a Screen Actors Guild NomCom consideration screening, which was led by Variety, Grande was honest about the way that the “Wicked” films have resparked a love for acting.

During an emotional moment when Grande was clearly tearing up when talking about the way that “Wicked” has reconnected her with acting after a long time of feeling disconnected from the profession.

“I think that spark of connection to my craft was also pretty disconnected for a little while,” Grande explained. “It really felt like safe again to fall in love with creating and like maybe I was being seen for the first time.”

Grande then went on to say that she is particularly hopeful that fans will go out and see “Wicked: For Good” in order to get a different perspective on Glinda, who she believes is portrayed in a more complex way in the sequel. “I feel really relieved that people finally will get to see and know and love Glinda the way that I had to play her,” she said.

Despite being more famous as a pop musician, Grande’s career began in acting. She starred in the Broadway musical “13” when she was still a teenager in 2008 before going on to star in several Nickelodeon series during the early 2010s, including “Victorious.”

Grande Has Emotional Week Promoting ‘Wicked: For Good’

The tearful confession from Grande comes after a difficult and emotional week for the singer and actor. She was accosted by a man during an event at Universal Studios Singapore while promoting “Wicked: For Good” alongside her castmates.

Johnson Wen was able to elude security and grab Grande while she was walking alongside Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. Evrio intervened and was able to remove Wen before security dragged him away. The man has since been charged and sentenced to several days in prison, although Grande subsequently posted a message of love about her time in Singapore.

The incident was more worrying for fans of Grande given her previous experience and admission that she suffers from PTSD following the Manchester concert bombing in 2017.
