Fans and Arena Crowd Show Support for ‘Rebel’

The support for Brooks extended well beyond the broadcast, with fans inside the Peoria Civic Center in Illinois showing their encouragement in meaningful ways.

Schiavone noted that there were “a lot of signs” in the crowd conveying messages of hope, reflecting how deeply Brooks is appreciated within the wrestling community.

“Rebel, we hope you’ll get better. Pray for Rebel,” he added. “My dear, we’re thinking about you. She’s a wonderful young lady.”

Over her six years with AEW, Brooks has built a strong and lasting connection with fans, becoming a familiar and valued presence both in and out of the ring.

Tanea Brooks Opens Up About Terminal ALS Diagnosis

Brooks first shared her diagnosis with fans on May 1, opening up about living with “terminal ALS,” a progressive neurological condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS gradually impacts speech, movement, breathing, and other vital functions. There is currently no cure.

In a vlog posted to social media, Brooks spoke openly about her health journey, explaining that the diagnosis came during an already challenging time as she prepared for surgery tied to her ongoing cancer battle.

“The thing is, sometimes we don’t want to hear that answer to our prayers. And so, while I was waiting to have lung surgery for the masses on my lung, the doctors at Mayo [Clinic] finally found what’s going on,” she said.

She also addressed the uncertainty surrounding her condition with honesty and grace.

“do[es] not know how long” she has to live since “there is not a lot of research behind ALS.”

“It explains why I have trouble walking and talking [and] all my functions will soon decline. But now, we can prepare for the future and what is to come,” she added.

Wrestling Community Rallies Around Brooks With Love and Support

In her message, Brooks paused to express heartfelt gratitude to those who have stood beside her throughout her journey, including the AEW team.

“I want to say thank you to Tony Khan and AEW for supporting me on this medical journey,” she said. “It has been a blessing that is unheard of and, from the bottom of my heart, thank you and thank you to all of you for your prayers.”

She also shared a deeply personal message with fans, asking them to continue holding her in their thoughts.

“Please continue to pray for a peaceful journey and a peaceful passing. I love you.”

In the hours that followed, support poured in from across the wrestling community, with fellow athletes and friends offering words of comfort and care.

“Sending you all the love. My prayers are with you Rebel,” wrote Jade Cargill.

“Sending you nothing but love. We will keep you in our prayers,” added Sammy Guevara.

Matt Jackson also shared a simple but heartfelt message, writing, “Nothing but love.”
