Three people were arrested — including two juveniles — after allegedly firing shots at officers attempting to pull them over in an unmarked car early Saturday morning on the Southwest Side, according to Chicago police.
The officers tried to pull over the vehicle in the 4400 block of South Mozart Avenue at 1:12 a.m. but at least one occupant fired shots at police before crashing in an alley about a half-mile away in the 2900 block of West 47th Street, police said.
Two juveniles and a young woman inside ran off, according to police and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, which is investigating the incident. One of the youths pulled a gun and fired more shots at the officers, who returned fire, but nobody was struck, police said.
All three were arrested, and two weapons were recovered at the scene, according to COPA.
It was not clear if any of the three faces charges in the shooting.
The suspects were taken to nearby hospitals for minor injuries sustained during the crash, police said. The officers involved have been put on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days.
An investigation is ongoing. COPA asked anyone with information to contact its office at 312-742-3609 or its website.
