A CBS News Chicago reporter and photographer were attacked by three men who yelled racial slurs, damaged their equipment, and commanded a dog to attack them near the Adler Planetarium on Monday afternoon, according to police and the news station.
Three persons of interest are in custody, police said, but no charges have been announced.
Two news station staffers were standing on the sidewalk on the 900 block of East Solidarity Drive while preparing to go on the air for a newscast when they were approached by at least three unknown men in a white tow truck about 4:30 p.m.
One of the assailants instructed a dog to attack a 54-year-old news station staffer while yelling slurs, according to Chicago police.
When the dog did not follow the command, the attacker “became irate” and damaged the victim’s property, throwing it on the ground.
CBS said one of the suspects smashed the photographer’s camera while another suspect smashed the windshield of a CBS news truck with a traffic cone before fleeing.
The three got back into the tow truck and fled the scene. No injuries have been reported.
Area 3 detectives are investigating.
