A Subway restaurant becomes Happy Gilmore’s ‘Happy Place’ for a one day pop-up
Fans of Happy Gilmore can get into the character’s head and go to his happy place in real life, thanks to a one day pop up in Santa Monica.
On Friday, Aug. 8, Subway, which has had a collaboration with the “Happy Gilmore” film since the original movie was released in 1996, is transforming one of its restaurants at 1801 Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica into the “Happy Place,” the surreal and serene dream world where Adam Sandler’s character mentally escapes to in order manage his anger.
“You can walk into our activation and feel like you stepped straight into the shoes of your favorite character from Happy Gilmore and you can relive some of the most beloved scenes from the film,” said Dean Harrison, senior director of social media and entertainment partnership for Subway.

Movie fans can expect to see scenes from both films including Virginia’s chaise lounge and there may even be a bear attack happening that day. There’s going to be a Happy Place beer garden, a putting green featuring recreations of the toughest holes in both movies where guests can play minigolf and people will be treated to free Happy Gilmore meals, featuring the Cold Cut Combo or the All-American Club sandwiches.
And from 12-2 p.m. movie fans will also get to meet Christopher McDonald, known for playing Shooter McGavin in the original “Happy Gilmore.”
“There’s going to be fountains, fogs, iconic music. It’s a multi-sensory experience that refereances the lore of the original Happy Gilmore as well as Happy Gilmore 2,” he said.
