Ald. Timmy Knudsen (43rd) is asking for “stricter rules on nightlife” in a corridor of Lincoln Park where a woman was shot Sunday following a bar fight nearby.
The 39-year-old woman was shot while standing outside in Lincoln Park Sunday just before 4 a.m. in the 600 block of West Belden Avenue, police said.
In an email to constituents Monday, Knudsen said the shooting was an “isolated incident” stemming from an “altercation” between people who had left a bar on Lincoln Avenue and moved to Belden Avenue.
The woman took herself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was listed in critical condition, Knudsen said in the statement. The investigation is ongoing, he said.
Knudsen said he is pushing to reevaluate the use of the area, which he said has been the source of previous complaints.
“For several years, my office has been in contact with the City’s Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Department and CPD related to this corridor, specifically to advocate for stricter rules on nightlife,” he wrote.
“On this stretch, there are a few businesses about which we consistently receive noise, cleanliness and safety complaints,” he said in the email. “We are urging city departments to allow us to set new rules on this stretch of businesses to ensure that nothing like this happens again.”
The woman was among 15 people shot across Chicago overnight Saturday into early Sunday morning.
