ALTADENA — The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation announced this week a $1.4 million project to build two Dodgers Dreamfields at Charles S. Farnsworth Park in Altadena as part of ongoing recovery efforts following the Eaton fire.
The two fields will be the 69th and 70th Dodgers Dreamfields developed by the foundation and are part of broader efforts to restore Farnsworth Park, which was among the recreational facilities severely affected by the January 2025 wildfire, according to the foundation.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 5 and will include a shovel dedication and a brief program featuring foundation leadership, representatives from the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and project sponsors.
“From the beginning, we knew our commitment to Altadena wouldn’t end with building Dodgers Dreamfields at Loma Alta Park,” Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation CEO Nichol McKenzie-Whiteman said. “Over the past year, we’ve continued to respond to what families needed most by bringing our Dodgers Dreamteam programming, which includes access to education and health resources for the community, supporting food distributions, and creating moments of normalcy during a very challenging time.”
The project will include new irrigation systems, improved playing surfaces, fencing, shade structures and solar-powered hexagonal scoreboards similar to those at Dodger Stadium.
The fields will support baseball and softball programs for children ages 5 to 12 while providing open recreational access for youth and teens up to age 18.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation has been an incredible partner in helping Altadena recover and rebuild following the Eaton Fire,” Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Director Norma E. García-González said. “For generations, Farnsworth Park has been a place where families gather, children play, and community connections are strengthened. These new Dodgers Dreamfields represent more than restored ballfields. They represent hope, healing, and renewed opportunities for Altadena youth and families as the community continues its recovery.”
The project has included community listening sessions with local stakeholders, including the Community Coalition for Altadena Recovery, Central Altadena Little League and other community leaders.
The Dodgers Foundation has invested more than $21.3 million to refurbish 68 Dodgers Dreamfields since 2003, providing more than 413,000 young people access to playable baseball and softball fields, according to the foundation.
