Alton Towers toilet fire sparks evacuation chaos at popular theme park

Theme park guests at Alton Towers were evacuated from Forbidden Valley after reports of a fire in a toilet.
Families turning up to the theme park during the summer holidays were left confused after a section was closed off.
Alton Towers later confirmed a small fire was found in a toilet facility in the Forbidden Valley area.
There was a temporary evacuation put in place while the blaze was dealt with.
Videos from the park show a huge queue of families as people try to leave the blocked-off section in the Forbidden Valley.

A voice rings out on the intercom: ‘Guests in Forbidden Valley may I have your attention please. This area is now closed.
‘This means all rides and attractions including: Nemesis Reborn, Galactica, Nemesis Sub-Terra, Toxicator and Rollercoaster Restaurant, are currently unavailable.
‘We ask please make your way to other areas of the theme park. We thank you for your co-operation.’
One person posted on X: ‘I’m confused as hell I hope nothing too serious has happened.’
An evacuation was put in place for around an hour while other sections remained open.
Alton Towers Resort staff were able to extinguish the fire before the fire brigade attended the scene.
A spokesperson for Alton Towers Resort said: ‘Earlier today, a small, contained fire was discovered by a colleague in a toilet facility within the Forbidden Valley area of the Resort.
‘Our team quickly put out the fire, and as a precaution, we temporarily evacuated the area while we established the cause.
‘We’d like to thank our guests for their cooperation. The safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members is always our top priority.’
